I can confirm what Maranda[x] said but only for rOS old version, with the new rOS version u can use linux containers

  2. Maranda

TheCoffeMaker: I pretend v7 doesn't exist it made BGP unusable

  3. Ellenor Bjornsd.

    murp?

  4. TheCoffeMaker

    Maranda: good to know!

  5. Licaon_Kter

Some scripts keep me on 6 too, one can't downgrade if 7 breaks them, right?

  6. TheCoffeMaker

Licaon_Kter: afaik no ... And that is keeping me on 6 too

  7. frog

routerOS is the default mikrotik firmware? Is it proprietary?

  8. Maranda

That's some rather controversial argument apparently

  9. frog

Oh, I didn't mean to kick the hornet's nest

  10. myjabber1337

    > frog написал: > routerOS is the default mikrotik firmware? Is it proprietary? no, opensource

  11. Maranda

myjabber1337: erm not really, kernel and toolchains are rest isn't

  12. Maranda

You can request media with Opensource parts to be shipped, and that is the controversial part

  13. TheCoffeMaker

rOS is propietary but if you are looking for industrial grade network appliances u dont have much FLOSS offers ... for instance Cisco, Mikrotik, Avaya, Juniper, etc. are all propietary ... the better thing that u can do is check if the hardware that u are buying has compatability with any other FLOSS I bought mine having that in mind, it's an old MIPS by today's standards supported by OpenWRT but didnt change it coz rOS is rock solid for my usecase and never had an issue

  14. jonas’

    VyOS!

  15. TheCoffeMaker

well for that I use plain debian
