Is load testing with jmeter still the best option for testing a new server?
-
Licaon_Kter
deimos: what sort of test?
-
Licaon_Kter
deimos: load test? https://github.com/processone/rtb
-
deimos
That could work too

I was thinking of this test, https://www.blazemeter.com/blog/xmpp-testing

Pfft java gui? C'mon...

Does anybody know how to harden malloc() for FreeBSD?
-
moparisthebest
Step 1. Use Rust
-
nuegia.net
moparisthebest, serious answers only please

Doesn't openbsd use calloc?
-
nuegia.net
openbsd uses ottomalloc
-
nuegia.net
but you can enable additional performance-costing checks in /etc/malloc.conf
-
nuegia.net
but I'm using freebsd
-
nuegia.net
maybe I should use HardenedBSD for my new servers instead
-
nuegia.net
anybody else using thaT?
-
nuegia.net
they don't seem to have a RELEASE build, only STABLE and CURRENT
-
nuegia.net
so i'm curious what the upgrade process is going to be like or how well ports are maintained

Contributions raised: $19,369.02 out of target of $15,000 USD.

msavoritias
Or you can use openbsd
-
msavoritias
For your server
-
nuegia.net
it seems like a funded project, but it's only 2 people
-
nuegia.net
msavoritias, No I can't. OpenBSD doesn't support jails
-
nuegia.net
or ZFS
-
msavoritias
Jails are good for closed source software only. Which you shouldnt be using anyway. Openbsd has unveil and pledge. Which work with the program and are much better.
-
msavoritias
For now anyways
-
nuegia.net
msavoritias, your opinion is wrong
-
moparisthebest
BSD is only good for playing the latest AAA games and nothing else, ask anyone with a PS4 or PS5
-
nuegia.net
I didn't ask for armchair admin opinions
-
deimos
i think the answer is, hack around with the malloc.conf and otherwise, no, we don't know how to harden malloc
-
deimos
i only thought of calloc because it's recomended to use instead of malloc in many cases

if we're going to troll, openbsd is developed on openbsd, linus uses a mac to develop linux kernel, or something

Heck, even Stallman uses Windows: https://stallman.org/stallman-computing.html > However, if I am visiting somewhere and the machines available nearby happen to contain non-free software, through no doing of mine, I don't refuse to touch them. I will use them briefly for tasks such as browsing. This limited usage doesn't give my assent to the software's license, or make me responsible its being present in the computer, or make me the possessor of a copy of it, so I don't see an ethical obligation to refrain from this. Of course, I explain to the local people why they should migrate the machines to free software, but I don't push them hard, because annoying them is not the way to convince them.
