XMPP Service Operators - 2023-01-16

  1. Guus

Does anyone run an Spectrum2 transport publicly, that I can use to query for service discover information?

  2. MattJ

You'll probably find some at jabber.hot-chilli.net

  3. MattJ

edhelas: reports coming in that mov.im is not able to connect to a number of XMPP servers right now

  4. MattJ

    In case you're not aware

  5. Licaon_Kter

    MattJ: which error?

  6. edhelas

    > edhelas: reports coming in that mov.im is not able to connect to a number of XMPP servers right now Looking at it, thanks !

  7. edhelas

    > edhelas: reports coming in that mov.im is not able to connect to a number of XMPP servers right now Ah mov.im, not movim.eu

  8. edhelas

Do you have a copy of one of those "report" ?

  9. savagepeanut

From the console "Connection established! Connection Error! Try to reconnect" repeated over and over when trying to sign in

  10. savagepeanut

Hmm. I'm not able to sign into a movim.eu account either... Same error

  11. savagepeanut

I disabled unlock origin and was able to sign in

  12. edhelas

    Fixed

  13. edhelas

PHP upgrade that went bad :p

  14. savagepeanut

    :)

  15. edhelas

No need to setup monitoring for mov.im then, I have the Operators chatroom 😎

  16. MattJ

    😄

  18. edhelas

Actually monitoring was already seeing it

  19. Guus

Thanks matt, you were right wrt the transport.

    > Jan 15 22:18:55 s2sout55b2c2cfee30 info Outgoing s2s connection diebesban.de->jabber.org complete Haven't seen successful s2s to jabber.org in years. :)

  21. MattJ

    \o/

  22. MattJ

One known issue is that IPv6 doesn't work

  23. MattJ

But we're trying to fix that

  24. Martin

    > Version : trunk nightly build 1331 (2020-09-02, 19dd9522f107) Is there any specific reason for choosing a >2 years old trunk version?

  25. MattJ

We didn't choose it, it chose us

  26. MattJ

    and has been a nightmare

  27. Martin

    o.O

  28. MattJ

It's long and complicated, and you really don't want to know :P

  29. MattJ

There will be another migration in the future, back to the other server where M-Link was running

  30. Licaon_Kter

So this will be fixed when ipv6 is the majority? Any minute now...

  31. MattJ

and at that point we should be able to get onto a recent Prosody build

  32. MattJ

Licaon_Kter, I've had enough complaints about IPv6 not working today to tell me that people care :)

  33. Licaon_Kter

Wasn't the "it's lua so it does not depend on distro" the selling point?

  34. Licaon_Kter

MattJ: ipv6 caring? Must be ze Germanz

  35. MattJ

    Could be

  36. MattJ

I'm not sure how Lua depends less on the distro than any other language

  37. MattJ

We still need dependencies and such, or even a compiler

  38. WojtekIM

    > It's long and complicated, and you really don't want to know :P @MattJ now I definitelly do want to know ^__^"

  39. MattJ

WojtekIM, one day, over a drink in Brussels perhaps :)

  40. MattJ

This year might be "too soon" though

  41. Martin

    Migration PTSD?

  42. MattJ

The root cause is simply that much of the XSF infrastructure is very old

  43. MattJ

We basically had to resuscitate one of our old powered-down servers to temporarily run Prosody on, since an in-place migration wasn't an option for various reasons

  44. Ellenor Bjornsd.

    jabberorg?

  45. Ellenor Bjornsd.

did your mlink script run out

  46. MattJ
