for stun/turn is it still recommended to have udp, tcp, and tcp+tls ?

  2. nuegia.net

what's the procedure for deleting a message from mam for prosody?

  3. nuegia.net

I could edit the json file but i'm not sure if there's a in-memory version or if I make a mistake and corrupt the json what will happen to the server

  4. MattJ

    nuegia.net, mod_muc_moderation + XEP-0425

While a given messenger is only used by a few geeks, it is usually not a good target for monetization. Matrix has reached commercial viability in the recent years due to its growing popularity and appeal for common people. Although we receive most spammers from Telegram/WhatsApp still (no wonder, given the proportions). It depends on the individual spammer.

  6. bkil

It is hilarious to read back how you struggle to fight with spammers and trolls with your PoC automation just a few hours after you declared that matrix is a joke in this regard. I'd like to note that from what I read here, I think mjolnir already does everything for matrix that you use mod_muc_rtbl, mod_firewall and mod_muc_moderation for XMPP. Some parts are already built into the protocol cross-platform and most clients & servers as well. Yet, we find the present implementation to be insufficient for even this tiny fraction of Telegram/WhatsApp spam, hence why I shared my research with you. Declaring it to be a "solved problem" sounds a bit tongue in cheek.

  7. moparisthebest

Sure, moderation is of course easier in a walled garden like matrix

  8. MattJ

    ??!

  9. MattJ

I think this conversation should end here, or move to another venue (the mod-ideas chat for example)

  10. moparisthebest

Anyway no one declared anything a solved problem so you can go away like the spammers

  11. MattJ

moparisthebest, chill please, seriously, just drop it

  12. moparisthebest

Roger, sent that right before your message appeared :/

  13. MattJ

bkil, you're welcome here, but let's not turn any of this into XMPP vs Matrix. I don't know what "struggle" you were referring to - apart from a lot of people discovering the tools we have available for the first time (or becoming aware they need them).

  14. MattJ

Moderation in an open network is tricky, and it's something to collaborate rather than compete on

  15. Licaon_Kter

Did anyone from chatterboxtown reach Ops afterall?

  16. MattJ

Licaon_Kter, yes, we've been in contact, accounts have been deleted

  17. wurstsalat

moonman@chatterboxtown.us is currently spaming (am I useful posting this here?)

  18. MattJ

wurstsalat, potentially, for people not using the RTBL

  19. MattJ

It's already on the RTBL and the admin has been notified

  20. wurstsalat

how do addresses get added to the TRBL?

  21. MattJ

There are people with the means to add them, and many of them are MUC admins in various places

  22. wurstsalat

how do addresses get added to the RTBL?

  23. wurstsalat

    I see, thanks

  24. MattJ

A great thing right now would be for someone to write an RTBL bot that can sit in MUCs and ban people, even on servers without RTBL support

  25. Sam

    RTBL?

  26. MattJ

    https://modules.prosody.im/mod_muc_rtbl

  27. Sam

I'm seeing the same thing from accounts on jabber.systemli.org now, btw

  28. moparisthebest

    Sam, https://modules.prosody.im/mod_muc_rtbl

  29. moparisthebest

yep can confirm that domain ^

  30. MattJ

Yeah, their server only has mailto contact info published :(

  31. MattJ

OTOH it seems they will shut down their XMPP server this year, so if we wait...

  32. MattJ

"Registration of new accounts will be disabled from 03/31/2023."
