Feels like the "unexpected hello" contact adding spammers are suddenly back to about 2016 levels this last week. Or did I break some firewall config with an update? Anyone else getting a fresh wave?

I should pay attention to which JID they're coming in on. My oldest one used to get hit pretty often by the random adds by strangers. I think it's been active for about 16 years now so it's on every spammer's list. 😁

Ellenor Bjornsd.: I'm aware of that, I'm wondering if they're all sending TO the same old account or hitting other ones. I usually have at least 3 JIDs online at any time.

What's the subject of the spam?
-
MattJ
They just send a greeting, no ad, unless you respond
-
MattJ
As well as evading some filters, this allows them to confirm a JID is "active" - they can charge more for lists of confirmed active JIDs

I don't think xmpp-dns.mdosch.de is a real Server
-
Martin
It's not.
-
Trung
it's on the internet. of course it's real
-
Martin
There is no xmpp server xmpp-dns.mdosch.de. Xmpp-dns just has to set a server name as some servers don't allow s2s otherwise.
