  1. ☭Mike Yellow

Where is the best website you sharing your public server addresses?

  2. Licaon_Kter

☭Mike Yellow: your website and keyoxide and fedi account and etc

  3. ☭Mike Yellow

    > ☭Mike Yellow: your website and keyoxide and fedi account and etc I do not understand...

  4. Licaon_Kter

    ☭Mike Yellow: which part?

  5. mjk

providers.xmpp.net might be a good place

  6. ☭Mike Yellow

I want a or some http link(s) to find public XMPP servers. What already in our manual are: https://providers.xmpp.net/ https://xmpp-servers.404.city/ https://list.jabber.at/ https://compliance.conversations.im/old/ https://xmpp.love/ https://jabberworld.info/servers/

  7. mjk

    that's... a lot

  8. Guus

Lists of lists are yummy! \o/

  9. mjk

    didn't know the last two

  10. mjk

    oh, does joinjabber have one?

  11. mjk

    hmmm kinda: https://joinjabber.org/docs/servers/

  12. ☭Mike Yellow

    > that's... a lot > Lists of lists are yummy! \o/ ……

  13. militiaman

Fxxk buggy Gajim! Tried to send this message for three times, everytime it stucked.

  14. militiaman

Oh. I am the “☭Mike Yellow”.

  15. ☭Mike Yellow

    > that's... a lot Yeah. That is a lot. But it is still not easy to find some servers which registration supports in-band and has only simple CAPTCHA.

  16. cal0pteryx (wurstsalat)

☭Mike Yellow: try https://providers.xmpp.net/overview/ and sort by "Registration"

  17. ☭Mike Yellow

    > ☭Mike Yellow: try https://providers.xmpp.net/overview/ and sort by "Registration" Thank you. I did not notice that page.

  18. *IM*

☭Mike Yellow: >> that's... a lot > Yeah. That is a lot. But it is still not easy to find some servers which registration supports in-band and has only simple CAPTCHA. And (german): https://www.freie-messenger.de/en/sys_xmpp/server/#empfehlenswerte-server

  19. Licaon_Kter

☭Mike Yellow: share server address, ah, got it backwards :))

  20. ☭Mike Yellow

    > ☭Mike Yellow: > >> that's... a lot > > Yeah. That is a lot. But it is still not easy to find some servers which registration supports in-band and has only simple CAPTCHA. > And (german): > https://www.freie-messenger.de/en/sys_xmpp/server/#empfehlenswerte-server Oh good! Thank you very much!

  21. ☭Mike Yellow

Machine translation: I feel like there are still those server addresses going around. It seems that XMPP doesn't have many mainstream public servers (maybe there are many domain names). Anyway, they can basically connect normally in China.

  22. ernst.on.tour

☭Mike Yellow: Each server could be a xmpp-server, each port could be used for client-connect. With sslh it is possible to share 443 between https and xmpp. They have to do a deep-package-inspection to differ between normal https and xmpp-traffic. The "normal" will get a connect but if they point on you, they will dpi-check every connection your device will initiate. They "cannot" decrypt your omemo-session, but maybe they just need your meta-data to visit you at home.

  23. ☭Mike Yellow

ernst.on.tour, You are an expert! 😄️

  24. ernst.on.tour

    No

  25. ernst.on.tour

But I've got some users on travel to china and they report me.

  26. ☭Mike Yellow

Though I did not clearly understand what you said, I think you were not telling me about a big problem.

  27. Licaon_Kter

☭Mike Yellow: https://compliance.conversations.im has what 1000? More? With 250 or so, with 90% or more features? How many are also public?

  28. Licaon_Kter

☭Mike Yellow: https://compliance.conversations.im/old has what 1000? More? With 250 or so, with 90% or more features? How many are also public?

  29. Trung

really? they pay you a visit for using xmpp?

  30. ☭Mike Yellow

https://www.freie-messenger.de/grafiken/xmpp-server.png Is that all satellites? Do they belong to several servers or every domain name is a server?

  31. Licaon_Kter

Trung: think they said "report to me" :))

  32. ☭Mike Yellow

    > ☭Mike Yellow: https://compliance.conversations.im/old has what 1000? More? With 250 or so, with 90% or more features? How many are also public? I do not understand your mean......

  33. ☭Mike Yellow

    > ☭Mike Yellow: https://compliance.conversations.im/old has what 1000? More? With 250 or so, with 90% or more features? How many are also public? I do not understand your meaning......

  34. Licaon_Kter

I mean, there are many servers, but having them public has certain issues...

  35. Licaon_Kter

Hardware size, maintenance, power, time to moderate, etc.

  36. ☭Mike Yellow

    > I mean, there are many servers, but having them public has certain issues... > Hardware size, maintenance, power, time to moderate, etc. Yeah. Should I suggest readers “do not select a server randomly here?”

  37. moparisthebest

In an ideal world there'd be 0 public servers because everyone would run their own or be on one ran by friends/family/community

  38. moparisthebest

Hopefully one day we'll get there :)

  39. Licaon_Kter

    But IPv6....

  40. ☭Mike Yellow

    > In an ideal world there'd be 0 public servers because everyone would run their own or be on one ran by friends/family/community > Hopefully one day we'll get there :) We socialists are making efforts to achieve such a world.

  41. ☭Mike Yellow

    > In an ideal world there'd be 0 public servers because everyone would run their own or be on one ran by friends/family/community > Hopefully one day we'll get there :) We socialists are making effort to achieve such a world.

  42. nob

what about a invite only public service?

  43. Licaon_Kter

    riseup has closed lol

  44. nob

think ab it like this, you can run a public service, but only allow so many people to signup and the more signups you get the more hardware resources you allocate

  45. nob

    riseup and disroot are closed

  46. nob

thats why i made my own

  47. mjk

    > https://www.freie-messenger.de/grafiken/xmpp-server.png > Is that all satellites? Do they belong to several servers or every domain name is a server? every circle is its own server, with some exceptions (some people administrate multiple domain names)

  48. nob

    like snikket

  49. ☭Mike Yellow

    > > https://www.freie-messenger.de/grafiken/xmpp-server.png > > Is that all satellites? Do they belong to several servers or every domain name is a server? > every circle is its own server, with some exceptions (some people administrate multiple domain names) Thanks.

  50. ernst.on.tour

    > really? they pay you a visit for using xmpp? That wasn't said by me, I said: > ... but maybe they just need your meta-data to visit you at home. Person A is a persona-non-grata and your meta-data shows that you are using the same server, ergo you could know him.

  51. Trung

… under investigation of high profile wanted criminal for sure that case would happen in any country i would imagine not just China

  52. Trung

    :s/would/could/

  53. ernst.on.tour

For sure, that could happens in every country. China was named by Mike and my users were travelling to china and were reported that the connection was doing well. I want to make clear, this is not a criminal-chat-protocol with garanty they never caught you.

  54. Sox

    > riseup has closed lol What? Do you habe a link?

  55. Licaon_Kter

Sox: search for "riseup xmpp shutdown" back in 2021 or so

  56. Sox

oh I thought it was also about their e-mail services

  57. Licaon_Kter

Where are we posting Sox ? :))

  58. Sox

    indeed, my bad

  59. nob

nah riseup email is bad lmao

  60. nob

    evilmail > riseup

  61. Sox

    > evilmail the fbi.support is specially good

  62. Sox

    always better to selfhost

  63. nob

    yeah we stole it LMAO
