When using OMEMO in MUC, keys are transfered by the MUC server or user' own server?

  2. Licaon_Kter

    ☭Mike Yellow: users own

  3. Licaon_Kter

    Pulleh from the contacts server.

  4. xsr

Hi, doors omemo work only with private group chats?

  5. xsr

    Does

  6. ☭Mike Yellow

    > ☭Mike Yellow: users own > Pulleh from the contacts server. So the more users in a room, the more possibility the encryption behaves unexpected. Yes?

  7. ☭Mike Yellow

    > So the more users in a room, the more possibility the encryption behaves unexpected. Yes? Especially when they are form different servers?

  8. ☭Mike Yellow

    > Hi, doors omemo work only with private group chats? Yes.

  9. ☭Mike Yellow

xsr, The room need to lock door and publish members addresses.

  10. Licaon_Kter

☭Mike Yellow: > So the more users in a room, the more possibility the encryption behaves unexpected. Yes? I guess

  11. xsr

Thanks, so in a room we are now in you cannot use omemo?

  12. ☭Mike Yellow

    > Thanks, so in a room we are now in you cannot use omemo? Yes. The door is open.

  13. msavoritias

    > Thanks, so in a room we are now in you cannot use omemo? the reason you cant is because to use omemo you need to know the address/jid of every person in this room.

  14. msavoritias

    and you dont here :)

  15. ☭Mike Yellow

    > > So the more users in a room, the more possibility the encryption behaves unexpected. Yes? > Especially when they are form different servers? The more servers, the more possibility that there are two of them can not connect to each other successfully, I think.

  16. xsr

Thank you guys for the clarification

  17. msavoritias

    > > > So the more users in a room, the more possibility the encryption behaves unexpected. Yes? > > Especially when they are form different servers? > The more servers, the more possibility that there are two of them can not connect to each other successfully, I think. yeah omemo key management is a problem for a long time in xmpp. with more than 5 people group chats that is.

  18. msavoritias

not sure what could fix it

  19. ☭Mike Yellow

I can not fix the environment or the design. But I can fix the newbie users. :)

  20. msavoritias

agreed. so thats why i am warning of the limitations currently

  21. Menel

It's less about how many people and more about what clients they use. No problem with 20x conversations

  22. Menel

But one buggy client can mess it up

  23. Licaon_Kter

    This ^^^

  24. ☭Mike Yellow

    > But one buggy client can mess it up Yes. One failed OMEMO verification make Conversations can not continue sending encrypted messages in MUC.

  25. Licaon_Kter

That's usually because a user is invited when they don't (yet) have an omemo key

  26. ☭Mike Yellow

Our manual adds four reasons now.
