  1. opal

    sagaracharya, please fuck off.

  2. opal

    everyones getting sick of it

  3. opal

thanks and have a nice one

  4. opal

i believe thats civil yet stern enough given how ignorant you are of the offtopic muc youve been linked, what, five times now?

  5. Steven Roose

    👍

  6. MattJ

opal: that was unnecessary and unkind, please be respectful of people and give them the benefit of the doubt (e.g. while learning the rules here). The moderators can handle moderation while you all can focus on server administration and staying on topic. Thanks.

  7. opal

im not backseating MattJ im legit tired of seeing it and if i was mod in here he would have been banned

  8. opal

im not doing it for you

  9. opal

whole week of it and im tired of it

  10. opal

if it stays offtopic then i will leave

  11. cal0pteryx

opal: no need to be _that rude_ though

  12. opal

    hop off

  13. opal

    im my own person

  14. opal

already got harassed in another muc tonight not looking for here too

  15. cal0pteryx

And that's fine. Just keep in mind what kind of environment you're creating by being rude in a community chat. Be the change you want to see ;)

  16. opal

i stayed 100% silent until it got enough on my nerves, i think that was enough kindness extended

  17. opal

you cannot respond to what does not exit my head

  18. opal

    thanks for understanding

  19. opal

i aim to be terse not rude

  20. MattJ

Then you missed your aim, is what I'm saying

  21. opal

clarification: interpret me as terse, not rude

  22. opal

before i actually lose it in here

  23. opal

on my life this is my nice face

  24. Trung

hey opal, not just you but me and properly alot of people are annoyed too. But chill out man 😁 sagaracharya, when|if you come back i hope you do realize this isn't the right place, so please stop sending anymore message about anything that has nothing to with operating a XMPP server in here. People's patient have ran out.

  25. MattJ

    Right, let's move on 🙂

  26. opal

this feels like irc where every half hour people rekindle the flames e.e

  27. opal

this is why i used to troll people like you Trung

  28. opal

    need more wine christ

  29. dora71

Is it possible for a normal user to see which muc domain uses the rtbl? Could be helpful to choose where to open a new muc.

  30. Licaon_Kter

    dora71: ask the admins

  31. dora71

Licaon_Kter: if this is the only option, sure.

  32. MattJ

Yeah, there is no other way to know

  33. Martin

You'll also know if you get added to the rtbl and can't join MUCs there anymore. 😇

  34. dora71

    I prefer Licaon_Kter's method 😊

  35. nuron

Anyone here experiencing a wave of new registrations via web registration with captcha protection?

  36. sagaracharya

    > sagaracharya, please fuck off. > > everyones getting sick of it > > thanks and have a nice one MattJ: Is such language allowed? I have shifted the topic elsewhere

  37. sagaracharya

Well, admins, next time opal gets all excited, remember that I'll not hold back on my language.

  38. MattJ

Then you'll both end up banned, so I hope you can each control yourselves

  39. MattJ

As a reminder, the channel guidelines are here: https://xmpp.org/community/channels/operators/

  40. sagaracharya

opal: Read the above link very carefully kid.

  41. MattJ

Please let's just move on now

  42. ☭Mike Yellow

    > Anyone here experiencing a wave of new registrations via web registration with captcha protection? Use a more complex captcha?

  43. MattJ

That just annoys normal users, and doesn't prevent spammers

  44. nuron

We are currently using ejabberd default captcha. Don't know if the accounts are created by bots or if there is a real person clicking the buttons.

  45. Ge0rG

I've heard you can outsource solving captchas for like 8$/1000

  46. opal

sagaracharya, wowaname@volatile.bz take your "nice words" privately to me, i do not care

  47. opal

sagaracharya, wowaname@volatile.bz take your "nice words" privately to me, i do not care. you wont hear the end of it from me then, and your karma will not protect you.

  48. opal

sagaracharya, my jid is wowaname@volatile.bz so you can take your "nice words" privately to me, i do not care. you wont hear the end of it from me then, and your karma will not protect you. at least nobody else in here will have to hear it

  49. MattJ

Ge0rG [15:51]: > I've heard you can outsource solving captchas for like 8$/1000 More like $1 or less per 1000 (though some such as recaptcha generally cost more)

  50. Ellenor Bjornsdottir

$8/1000 is a good budgetary figure and leaves enough for loss, corruption, and dragon feeding

  51. Martin

I would really like to pay that price ($1 or $8) to never see captchas again, but I guess this service needs to give others access to your computer, or how else would it work?

  52. MattJ

    They have APIs

  53. Martin

Ah, operators channel. Sorry for OT, just ignore it or answer to xmpp:martin@mdosch.de

  54. fatoumata

they usually have an api that you send the request uri or token off to

  55. MattJ

And people put those APIs into Python scripts or browser extensions or whatever

  56. fatoumata

last ot: some of them are mechnical turk (usually more $$) others are just programs

  57. MattJ

A bit OT yeah, but not OT is me reminding everyone how captchas are not a simple magic solution protecting your XMPP service, and I learned this 10 years ago on jabber.org

  58. fatoumata

yea anyone motivated enough will plow through them

  59. Martin

Interesting, so recaptcha, google and so on don't give a penalty if the captcha was forwarded to someone else and got solved by someone with a different IP? Or do i still not understand how it works?

  60. opal

i went closed registrations with everything before implementing captcha haha i dont believe in captchas at all (especially now with AI on the horizon)

  61. opal

line between human and bot is blurring, captchas dont test for spam inclination

  62. MattJ

Martin: captchas involve a challenge and response, you can pass the challenge to a third party and they can tell you what the correct response is, for example. Then you could still submit from the same IP.

  63. opal

yeah and people offer this service for like 2 cents a solve

  64. opal

    lifes great

  65. Martin

    MattJ: thx
