That just annoys normal users, and doesn't prevent spammers

We are currently using ejabberd default captcha. Don't know if the accounts are created by bots or if there is a real person clicking the buttons.

I've heard you can outsource solving captchas for like 8$/1000

$8/1000 is a good budgetary figure and leaves enough for loss, corruption, and dragon feeding

And people put those APIs into Python scripts or browser extensions or whatever

last ot: some of them are mechnical turk (usually more $$) others are just programs

i went closed registrations with everything before implementing captcha haha i dont believe in captchas at all (especially now with AI on the horizon)

Martin: captchas involve a challenge and response, you can pass the challenge to a third party and they can tell you what the correct response is, for example. Then you could still submit from the same IP.
