Hello, mates. I want to create a new public room, but this time I want to try an MUC server hosted by Openfire or Tigase. I want your ideas or suggestions.

I see that Tigase is “extremely modular” on github. So I guess the room configurations could be extremely different in different tigase servers?

As for Openfire, the public servers for now do not provide configuration text in users' language, but that is not hard to understand with the help of machine translation, I guess.

Actually for Tigase I'm thinking of the MUC registration form where it has some custom fields, I haven't reviewed its configuration form

If I'm used w/ Conversations, and it has a "destroy room" I kinda expect it to "do the right thing™" so the room is at least for a while "dead" ✏

Licaon_Kter thumb rule is in over a decade of XMPP development, the only client I seen doing the right thing with dataforms was Gajim, sorta.

Vacuum-im's forms work well

Eg. Conversations, if the room was destroyed shows a banner with "destroyed, wanna leave?"

I ask from the perspective of a noob room admin as ☭Mike Yellow tries to create guides for noobs. And saw them play with Psi/Gajim etc and it helps to know which one is ok etc

Licaon_Kter i would also like to point out that Metronome by default doesn't do instant rooms... So when a room doesn't exist it needs to undergo the creation process which involves submitting the configuration form. And C AFAIR, along some others, doesn't present that to the user and even send a form automatically specifying the room to be persistent... So *aherm* *double cough* very 🤣™️™️

We'll users want that usually so yeah...

But this "users want that usually" client (mis)behaviour does actually bypass the main protocol mean to simply prevent accidental cluttering of the MUC service disco with rejoins without creation restrictions or complex tombstoning... 🤷
