Are there any public xmpp servers available with a rest api / http endpoint?
-
Licaon_Kter
That offers what on rest?
-
dora71
Licaon_Kter: A way to use xmpp over http (like mod_rest in Prosody) https://modules.prosody.im/mod_rest
-
Licaon_Kter
dora71: ah like https://github.com/processone/ejabberd-contrib/tree/master/mod_rest
-
dora71
Licaon_Kter: It would be enough just to send a "normal" message over the http interface, no need to execute commands.

I don't think there's are puoc federating severs with that. But we have many with websockets and bosh✎ -

-
☭Mike Yellow
>I tried the first three and couldn't join a channel on another server Yes. I have gave up looking for an good public server hosted by Openfire. We would like to directly tell users that the usable public servers you can find are almost only Ejabberd and Prosody. >do s2s connections work for you using openfire public servers? No.
-
☭Mike Yellow
I gave up. I did not create a new room by Openfire or Tigase.
-

Menel: I know about websockets and bosh. Problem is implementation in other software. http/curl/ etc. is widely integrated in software so it would be nice to use it.
-
Menel
We just need to make go-sendxmpp as popular as curl, then it is the same 🙂
-
jonas’
no, add xmpp support to curl instead :)
-
jonas’
given that curl even supports MQTT, I don't see why XMPP shouldn't be added :)

:))

MSavoritias (fae,ve)
wait why doesnt it support it actually? It even is getting support for gemini /thinking

jonas’
nobody did it yet

☭Mike Yellow: I just tested sure.im (tigase server) and it works fine. I can join channels on other servers. Creating rooms also works.
-
☭Mike Yellow
Yes. But weird things happened on me. It is very slow when adjusting affiliations.
-
lissine
By the way, how does yax.im allow users of other servers to create channels on it?
-
☭Mike Yellow
> Yes. But weird things happened on me. It is very slow when adjusting affiliations. And I wonder why I have no permission to make room public searchable on it.
-
lissine
> By the way, how does yax.im allow users of other servers to create channels on it? apparently by setting restrict_room_creation to false (prosody muc component)
-
Licaon_Kter
Was that a tech question or a server admin burden one?
-
lissine
none, I was just curious.
-
lissine
Because yax.im is the only server that I know of that allows other servers to create channels on it
-
lissine
> apparently by setting restrict_room_creation to false (prosody muc component) It turns out this is the default for prosody servers
-
☭Mike Yellow
Generally, room owners who belong to other user servers can not make room public searchable, so it does not matter much if an MUC server allows several trusted other servers to create rooms on it, I guess. When I think of this, I realized that I have no that permission on sure.im may because I was using a user that does not belong to it. 😅️✎ -

Annoying. No organization or discipline. No frequent online.

we can say perhaps 99% of XMPP users know English

OK. My main mission finished. Our manual has both EPUB and PDF now, comprehensive, no any other XMPP manual better than it. I may reduce traveling around among English rooms because I have no many more questions. I will pay more attention to do some other things. Whatever those scattered Chinese users will or not read English for weeks because they do not know there is a Chinese manual.
-
☭Mike Yellow
> we can say perhaps 99% of XMPP users know English Then I have a thing that I want to complain. Why there is no a comprehensive XMPP user manual in English? So we could directly translate it into Chinese without creating a new one.

I heard there was an attempt to get XMPP into curl in the early 2ks

It's just a matter of anyone actually doing it, the curl project is great for accepting contributions and helping new folks
