The older generation were generally taught from young to be more aware of potential issues that could jeopardise the security/privacy/freedom of future generations.

  2. moparisthebest

junaid, not really, the people in 1851 didn't expect an innocent registry to be responsible for their descendants to be killed ~90 years later https://jacquesmattheij.com/if-you-have-nothing-to-hide/ but it is good for us to learn from that history

  3. Licaon_Kter

They do as much as they understand in their present time, true.

  4. junaid

moparisthebest, thanks! That's an excellent write-up with a nothing-2-hide lesson to be learnt. However, in my opinion, it's still distant from my thought which was more related to what the education system in my country taught me compared to what it seems to teach these days. Books in my days were chosen specifically to teach students more (long term) life lessons than simply learning a language etc etc. I admit that maybe that wasn't the case elsewhere in the world.

  5. moparisthebest

junaid, makes sense, that may or may not being a function of being further from the events in that blog, people forget...

  6. Licaon_Kter

They kinda skizo cycle between _"that would never happen here"_ and _"omg X person is literally hitler"_ Selective memory?

  7. emus

    Hi Maranda, are you available?

  8. Maranda

    Sorta, what's up?

  9. emus

Maranda: Any know issues with the support muc? I cannot join it

  10. Maranda

    emus: LW's? No I'm in

  11. emus

    Hmmm

  12. emus

Maranda: Any clue why the compliance tester changes the rating frequently for you server?

  13. Maranda

Long story short: because it sucks and it's unmantained it should not be used

  14. Martin

The tester or your server? *scnr*

  15. Maranda

And it doesn't like not being able to create rooms on MUCs

  16. Maranda

    Martin: the tester

  17. Maranda

And tramples on Bifrost where it's not supposed to create rooms

  18. Maranda

I asked to rectify the MAM MUC tests, answer was "I'm not adding code to it anymore"

  19. Maranda

    Martin "scnr" btw

  20. Martin

    ?

  21. TheCoffeMaker

    > And it doesn't like not being able to create rooms on MUCs make an ACL for tester user

  22. TheCoffeMaker

    and problem solved

  23. Maranda[x]

TheCoffeMaker: I'm not adding exceptions for a buggy tool and / or hiding Bifrost from Disco.

  24. TheCoffeMaker

👍 ... it worked for my use case, just wanted to share

  25. Maranda[x]

It's unmantained and unreliable, and I threat It as such.

  26. Quinn64 (jabbering-queer.net)

I'm not sure how well it stacks up to the comliance tester, but Gajim has a built in XEP checklist. It doesn't cover the XEPs for VoIP calls, but it's been enough for my use cases
