  2. eevvoor

I got this from my connection via jabberfr bridge to oftc irc.

  3. eevvoor

This is not really nice to ban random servers due to war spam?

  4. eevvoor

Or do you think some nerd spammed the IRC via jabberfr 😄️? Honestly, I don't

  5. eevvoor

    But who knows ...

  6. eevvoor

    Who here is jabberfr?

  7. Licaon_Kter

eevvoor: it happens, irc server bans bridge, retry...

  8. Menel

They tell to mail support, I would do that.

  9. jonas’

eevvoor, oftc has some "badwords" which may get you spambanned.

  10. jonas’

I saw good people getting banned by this, you should contact support (or ask maybe jabberfr for support, it's not clear whether this affects you or everyone via that bridge)

  11. Menel

If jabberfr has an open identd_port they should be able to ban more granular then just the server

  12. eevvoor

Some IRC channels require the identd_port, that is true.

  13. eevvoor

jonas’, I have not used bad words, for the last months I posted only a single line via oftc, that was about booting via efi or legacy.

  14. eevvoor

Is here someone using oftc via jabberfr bridge?

  15. jonas’

eevvoor, I did not mean bad words like the f-word or n-word or stuff like that, it's more complicated than that and I won't go into the details publicly because it's part of their antispam measures. In any case, contact support, they'll be able to tell you what happened. Worst case you need to then ask jabberfr support for assistance.

  16. jonas’

    I am not.

  17. jonas’

though, thinking of it: contact jabberfr support first

  18. jonas’

they can contact oftc on your behalf, makes more sense IMO

  19. eevvoor

Yes, I did not mean obvious stuff, but also with complicated spam rules a cone liner about boot errors can not trigger the spam filter.

  20. jonas’

the ban kicks in right after the message. did you get banned right after your oneliner or was there a delay?

  21. eevvoor

    no, several days later

  22. jonas’

then it wasn't you and it's probably the entire bridge which got burned

  23. jonas’

    contact jabberfr about it

  24. eevvoor

    thx jonas’

  25. Menel

Link Mauve: about biboumi From fdroid irc: > if you're trying to use jabberfr, it's currently banned because their config sucks; I still need to yell at them about that > (it got banned automatically because their broken config tripped an antispam measure) Seems it is about channels not beeing persistent and too many joining and leaving.

  26. Link Mauve

I already contacted them about the issue fwiw.

  27. Link Mauve

    Didn’t get a reply yet.

  28. Link Mauve

We rely on users setting the persistency because when we were setting it by default some users were angry that after connecting once their nickname would be used for months even if they didn’t connect again.

  29. Menel

dwfreed said they are writing a mail rn

  30. Link Mauve

So if you routinely use irc.jabberfr.org and want to stay in the channels even when your last client is offline, please toggle persistent.

  31. Link Mauve

    Cool. :)

  32. Menel

I can understand both sides of the issue 🙂

  33. MattJ

Maybe biboumi needs a "persistent for X days" setting

  34. Link Mauve

    Biboumi probably needs a maintainer.

  35. jonas’

    it does indeed

  36. jonas’

    or a RIIR!

  37. jonas’

    with card games and entertainment!

  38. MattJ

    Thanks for volunteering :)

  39. jonas’

MattJ, it's been on my mind for a while, but I haven't yet gotten the hang of xmpp-rs sufficiently to actually tackle it, unfortunately.

  40. Licaon_Kter

    > So if you routinely use irc.jabberfr.org and want to stay in the channels even when your last client is offline, please toggle persistent. Because that's soooo easy I forgot how the next second...

  41. Licaon_Kter

    > about biboumi > From fdroid irc: I've put it in the F-Droid About page, should I remove it?

  42. Menel

Add a line and tell users to change their rooms to persistent via ad-hoc commands.

  43. Link Mauve

Licaon_Kter, how can we make that easier?

  44. Licaon_Kter

Maybe I've got it wrong, but I need a(nother) client with ad-hoc, to send those messages to configure it, yes?

  45. Link Mauve

    Yes.

  46. Link Mauve

Are there still clients which don’t support ad-hoc commands? :|

  47. Licaon_Kter

Only the popular ones, Dino, Siskin, Monal, Conversations. Converse does? Profanity? Poezio? Those are not in F-Droid...

  48. jonas’

you don't need ad-hoc for persistence

  49. jonas’

it is covered in the normal MUC configuration form.

  50. Licaon_Kter

Most #fdroid members come via matrix bridge, I bet that does not need ad-hoc (well I know they record everything and keep users even when long gone, but that's another sad story)

  51. Licaon_Kter

jonas’: what's "normal muc what" ?

  52. jonas’

    it works with Dino

  53. Licaon_Kter

    Yup, I stand corrected

  54. Licaon_Kter

    Dino can

  55. Licaon_Kter

For some reason (for my local biboumi) thu Persistent toggle does not stay "on" but yeah

  56. Licaon_Kter

For some reason (for my local biboumi) the Persistent toggle does not stay "on" but yeah

  57. Link Mauve

Licaon_Kter, we can enable persistency by default, but then users will complain that their nickname stays online even when they aren’t, and forgot they were even using our service, and that other people think they are available despite that.

  58. Licaon_Kter

    Yup, got it

  59. Licaon_Kter

    > Seems it is about channels not beeing persistent and too many joining and leaving. Why are they doing that though?

  60. jonas’

    mobile networks.

  61. Licaon_Kter

    Ah, and IRC gets join/leaves

  62. jonas’

    exactly

  63. Link Mauve

Because this user probably didn’t configure it as their bouncer.
