  1. TheAvidHorizon

nuegia.net, well said. You should expect an update soon, by the way.

  2. nuegia.net

I think my swap device may be too complex for a crashing system. Just got off the phone with someone. We came to the conclusion I should try to setup a nvme namespace the size of the system's memory so coredump(8) may work.

  3. nuegia.net

an encrypted zpool block device may be too complex

  4. maike

    who uses swap in 2023?

  5. maike

    just use zram

  6. maike

disk backed swap is a hazard

  7. maike

and if userspace is causing a kernel panic, your system is beyond broken

  8. agh

nuegia.net, there is a FreeBSD and BSD MUC that might be able to help with your panic

  9. nuegia.net

TheAvidHorizon, an update regarding what? Wrong persion mentioned?

  10. nuegia.net

agh, link me it please. That sounds like it would be helpful.

  11. nuegia.net

right now i'm having to look through historical bsdcon videos because the handbook's swap and dump documentation hasn't been updated since major changes.

  12. nuegia.net

    > and if userspace is causing a kernel panic, your system is beyond broken yeah, it's a major kernel bark. Unfortunately only a handful of people have the skills neccecary to fix kernel level issues and I'm not at that level yet.

  13. nuegia.net

for anyone federating, expect a few more hiccups these next few hours as I try and figure things out. Hopefully this can be fixed eventually.

  14. agh

    nuegia.net, freebsd@muc.xmpp.fi and bsd@conference.tilda.center

  15. nuegia.net

    thanks.

  16. agh

nuegia.net, swap is easy, you create a GEOM swap partition in your disk slice, swap can only be a 100MiB, depends on what you think might get dumped, to be safe.

  17. maike

nuegia.net, you mention that it is a VM, is the microcode on your host machine updated?

  18. nuegia.net

it's not a vm, it's a vnet jail on bare metal. the kernel on the bare metal is crashing from the pid inside a jail. yes the microcode has been updated, i confirmed it in dmesg

    > agh: nuegia.net, there is a FreeBSD and BSD MUC that might be able to help with your panic

  20. rewtkid

can you send the address for this muc?

  21. rewtkid
