  1. jonas’

    *sigh*

  2. jonas’

you know the saying "schedule maintenance, otherwise the equipment will schedule maintenance for you"?

  3. jonas’

at least I'll now get around fixing the disk space hog for good. (sjn down once more, due to disk full)

  4. Guus

    Ouch. Good luck.

  5. ☭Mike Yellow

Saving too much log? Consider to make your filesystem self-compressed?

  6. klaudie

logrotate can also compress old logs you can also use duperemove on btrfs and xfs to remove duplicate file extents

  7. jonas’

gotta love when people give advice without knowing the least about a problem <3

  8. klaudie

there is a separate software which you don't control on the machine which fills the disk

  9. klaudie

    ?

  10. MSavoritias (fae,ve)

shouldnt you ask if they need or want help first? /thinking

until a few weeks ago, I ran a web service on the same box which required ~25 GiB of data. I hadn't gotten around to delete that data yet, I'm doing that now (after archiving it---the archiving takes a while because I'm downloading through a 5MB/s link). once that's gone there's enough space to go on without issues.

*IF I MAY SAY:* If you, yourself there u, HOST A CHAT SERVER using a very mature CHAT PROTOCOL and provide a homeworld for others to leave their TCP connections idle, chat, and do stuff together, IT IS MY PROFESSIONAL OPINION that you should chat too.

  13. chunk

Hence as an operator/admin it only makes sense to be a part of the chats

  14. chunk

*IF I MAY SAY:* XMPP is very DNS (DOMAIN NAME) oriented, we are all DOMAINS and NAMED hence our domains mean something to us. This should be self propelling for an operator to make with their OFFERED services.

  15. chunk

Hence as an operator/admin why not inspire community and/or a theme or motto

  16. chunk

    ... ...... just my thoughts

  17. sch

    Greetings to one and all!

  18. sch

May someone please explain the technicalities of registering a bot as a service component?

  19. sch

I would be delighted to receive a basic explaination about the technicalities of registering a bot as a service component.

  20. savagepeanut

    Like how to do it?

  21. savagepeanut

    Depends on the server software

  22. savagepeanut

    The standard is XEP-0114

    > klaudie: > 2024-01-23 12:56 (CST) > logrotate can also compress old logs > you can also use duperemove on btrfs and xfs to remove duplicate file extents Xfs has dedup?

  24. klaudie

    For a few years now

  25. agris

Is it transparent like zfs And resource hungry or is it a one time online process like a defrag?

  26. agris

What is the tool to do this with xfs?

  27. klaudie

    any, eg. duperemove

  28. klaudie

    and the latter

  29. klaudie

    ondemand/manual

  30. sch

savagepeanut, Yes, and I also need a server to test a bot.

  31. hook

Maranda, are there issues on your end (muc.metronome.im and, I assume, conference.yunohost.org) or is something wrong on my end? For days I’ve been having problems accessing MUC on both of those servers. And when c.y.o worked, there was a huge lag between Matrix and XMPP•

  32. sch

Friends, I'm working on an RSS bot and it appears to work good. My next step is to make that bot a service component. I don't have an XMPP sevrer and lack of information on operating an XMPP server. I would be delighted if someone would provide me with a (test) server to test my bot with. https://gitgud.io/sjehuda/slixfeed

  33. Guus

sch: I can help you out tomorrow

  34. sch

    Thank you Guus!

  35. Guus

Contact me in approximately 10 hours from now sch

  36. sch

    I will

  37. sch

    Noted. I will.

  38. chunk

sch, oh cool, i would be delighted to do that, with `xmpp.bot` of all domains, but I'm not sure how to grant that to you, but with your own TLS certs and DNS fixing, I can certainly configurue a vhost

  39. chunk

I was going to start offering xmpp vhost service after my server rework

  40. sch

I am not in a hurry. Please take your time. I am open to offers and assistance. The required code for operating the bot as a component haas not been added yet. The bot is to be found at https://gitgud.io/sjehuda/slixfeed
