XMPP Service Operators - 2024-02-08

  1. chunk

hi again, xmpp.bot/toofast.vip died last week, if anybody cares, no reason will be given however there was only me there as a user on :5222 .. Sometimes people like to tinker, or don't know what they're doing sometimes (sadly might be the case with a non-xmpp related service on that previous host), and stuff happens

  2. chunk

return is not scheduled, because the chunk chats way too damn much to be any useful to himself and should slow his roll, eh

  3. chunk

obv toofast.vip will be back, if anybody wants to buy `xmpp.bot` from me lemme know

  4. chunk

knowing me, i might turn it into an evil bot paradise and it would get banned x banned (jokes)

  5. chunk becomes a pirate in bot form

  6. chunk still cannot find the cannonballs

  7. astriid

    > Failed inbound s2s EXTERNAL authentication sapphirus.org: certificate has expired > DNSSEC validation failed for question _xmpps-server._tcp.inspirenet.org IN SRV: failed-auxiliary > DNSSEC validation failed for question _xmpp-server._tcp.chat.above.im IN SRV: failed-auxiliary

  8. jonas’

IM doesn't even have DNSSEC, does it?

  9. astriid

Indeed, but why would it try it then?

  10. astriid

    Maybe systemd-resolved bug

  11. jonas’

    that sounds plausible

  12. chunk

    > DNSSEC validation failed for question _xmpps-server._tcp.inspirenet.org IN SRV: failed-auxiliary @ Tcache

  13. chunk

I have no idea what tool you're using

  14. chunk

    @ astriid

  15. Tcache

    >> DNSSEC validation failed for question _xmpps-server._tcp.inspirenet.org IN SRV: failed-auxiliary > @ Tcache DNSSEC :o

  16. jonas’

    Tcache, is inspirenet.org your domain?

  17. jonas’

something is wrong with it, even aside dnssec AFAICT: https://dnsviz.net/d/_xmpps-server._tcp.inspirenet.org/dnssec/

  18. Tcache

    > Tcache, is inspirenet.org your domain? yess

  19. jonas’

looks as if your NS records at the org. parent zone (what you put in at the registrar's side) and glue are not matching your child zone, make sure those are aligned.

  20. Tcache

Hmmm, i will look into it.

  21. Tcache

    Thank you jonas’

  22. edhelas

    Disroot is broken :'( ?

  23. Polarian

Well this channel wnet down for a bit

  24. Polarian

anyways, edhelas disroot appears to be working fine... I can peer with it without any issues.

  25. Polarian

Although they do not have a `AAAA` record, but they should have IPv6 blocks: https://bpa.st/LKFQ Maybe I should shoot off a quick email enquiring about it, as their provider should support it.

  26. Polarian

    _I checked_

  27. Polarian

I never really got the big craze around disroot, but a lot of people like them... and according to Guus network map, they are very popular

  28. Polarian

I shot off an email to disroot, I am not sure if the owner(s) are here, if they are check your mailbox :)

  29. Guus

I advice against using the network graph to come to any important conclusions.

  30. ben

Polarian: I know they are active in the XMPP chat

  31. Polarian

  32. Polarian

Well anyways I got to focus on a uni project, cya

  33. ben

    Hopefully it involves XMPP

  34. Polarian

    no... I am first year

  35. Polarian

you really think we are doing anything more than basic programming?

  36. Polarian

    We use racket too

  37. Polarian

which is about as interesting as watching paint dry...

  38. ben

    Racket is hella cool

  39. MSavoritias (fae,ve)

    racket is awesome

  40. Guus

  41. roughnecks

  42. Guus

    (background: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paint_Drying )

  43. Polarian

oh boy seems everyone here likes racket

  44. jonas’

( Polarian, this is getting off-topic, but there are programming-related MUCs available, see here: https://search.jabber.network/search?q=programm )

  45. ben

People who use XMPP regularly are on a level of nerdiness where you use emacs and program in lisp or something

  46. Polarian

jonas’, The topic is over though... no need to throw the rule book at me

  47. Polarian

    > People who use XMPP regularly are on a level of nerdiness where you use emacs and program in lisp or something I use vim...

  48. Polarian

    whatever floats your boat :)

  49. ben

    There is need.

  50. jonas’

this wasn't intended as rule-book-throwing, but as a pointer to find more spaces matching your interests :)

  51. ben

  52. Guus

I was going to comment the lack of rooms appropriate for discussions on watching paint dry, but there's actually an Art Cafe MUC listed on SJN :)

  53. Polarian

    You're kidding?

  54. Guus

  55. Polarian

    Is there one for depression?

  56. Polarian

  57. ben

    This one

  58. jonas’

  59. ben

    Try xmpp:fun@muc.cdom.de?join

  60. Polarian

    > MattJ: > 2024-02-07 09:21 (CST) > E.g. I'm hosting over 1000 domains on Snikket, but they would only count as '1' towards this How do you handle ancillary service config like rate limiting, mucs, plugins for mucs etc. What does your config tree look like for that? Also how much ram does that use?

  62. jonas’

those are just normal Snikket instances as far as I can tell (plus maybe some bootstrapping logic for initial admin sign in after a spinup)

  63. MattJ

Yes, the config is the same on every instance ( https://github.com/snikket-im/snikket-server/blob/master/ansible/files/prosody.cfg.lua ), with things like domain name fed in through environment variables

  64. Polarian

moparisthebest, still not able to join DivestOs channels, are you?

  65. Licaon_Kter

    Polarian: when that was said?

  66. Polarian

he said the channel has been restarted a lot

  67. Polarian

but I haven't been able to join for 2 days

  68. Licaon_Kter

    I can join just fine

  69. Licaon_Kter

    And I am there now

  70. Polarian

  71. Polarian

    remote server not found

  72. Licaon_Kter

Polarian: `dig` works? Server log says only that?

  73. moparisthebest

    Polarian: I'm there

  74. Polarian

ok let me check the logs

  75. Polarian

  76. Polarian

xD I need to do something cya

  77. chunk

  78. chunk

    i like xmpp

  79. chunk

  81. moparisthebest

Trung: hmm my server connected fine, is your system time good?

  82. Trung

how do I check system time is ok? I can connect everywhere else so...

  83. moparisthebest

Run "date" on your server i mean

  84. Trung

    Yeah it returns correct value

  85. chunk

Is it just me or has xmpp been widely unstable lately?

  86. moparisthebest

    chunk: only you

  87. chunk

moparisthebest: does your android client state wrong number of occupants as opposed to desktop client stating way different occupants if an muc?

  88. chunk

That's occured to me now on 3 jids I think, only 2 i hosted

  89. chunk is tracking the furry beast and will set a trap
