*muc.xmpp.dohdom.de*: S2S error from snikket.de to muc.xmpp.dohdom.de. Error with certificate 0: certificate has expired.

  7. dora71

Menel: I know. Look it up later. Tnx for info.

  8. dora71

    Should be fixed now πŸ˜ƒ

  9. Polarian

Menel, so you are the admin of snikket...

  10. Polarian

I can never remember who runs what πŸ™ƒ

  11. Wirlaburla

    I run with my legs.

  12. Licaon_Kter

  13. Wirlaburla

Operators should be required to join this muc under the name of their server.

  14. Wirlaburla

    Let me correct my mistake.

  15. worlio.com

    There we go.

  16. worlio.com

    No more confusion.

  17. Menel

Just lurk here a few years /decades, then one knows more and more of them πŸ˜‰

  18. Licaon_Kter renames themselves as `[Private]`

  19. MattJ

My name would be too long

  20. worlio.com

    Onion server?

  21. worlio.com

Or just a really long domain name?

  22. MattJ

    No, multiple servers

  23. snikket dot deeeeee

    > Polarian: dot deeeeee πŸ‘

  24. worlio.com

    MattJ: Good point.

  25. aereaux

    Just need hats for everyone

  26. Guus

    > No, multiple servers Looking forward to addressing you with the appropriate regex...

  27. worlio.com

Join the muc with multiple clients, all with different nicknames.

  28. Polarian

    > No, multiple servers Just call yourself `UINT_MAX servers`

  29. Polarian

    > No, multiple servers Just call yourself `UINT_MAX` servers

  30. Polarian

    > No, multiple servers Just call yourself "`UINT_MAX` servers"

  31. snikket dot deeeeee

There are some that don't need that and still everyone knows them. As long as people don't call themselfs 'admin' here it's quite fine I think

  32. worlio.com

No, everyone become admin so everytime you mention admin, everyone gets a mention.

  33. worlio.com

    It'd be funny.

  34. MattJ

Technically I'm the abuse contact for over 1000 servers, so I don't think it's manageable. But sure, it would be nice to at least set badges for public server operators here. That can be arranged...

  35. worlio.com

Abuse contact for over a thousand? Holy fuck, do you get sleep?

  36. MattJ

    They're mostly well-behaved so far πŸ™‚

  37. worlio.com

I think it'd be neat to add "tags" for names in mucs. Whatever that is called or if it exists already, it'd be cool.

  38. roughnecks

    hats!

  39. MattJ

It does exist already, in this room even

  40. worlio.com

    There an XEP?

  41. MattJ

But currently identifying XSF members, we don't have them for server operators unless we write some code for that

  42. MattJ

    worlio.com: yes, XEP-0317

  43. worlio.com

    I like the name hats.

  44. Polarian

    hats...

  45. Polarian

    maybe extending the vcard definition?

  46. Polarian

stick an admin tag in on it

  47. worlio.com

This XEP is good but it should also send an image of the appropriate hat so it appears above the persons avatar.

  48. worlio.com

    I must wear a top-hat.

  49. Polarian

    This isn't Discord

  50. worlio.com

    Discord doesn't have hats.

  51. worlio.com

Well, atleast last I checked. I haven't touched Discord in eons.

  52. worlio.com

    I wasn't serious anyhow.

  53. worlio.com

I wasn't serious anyhow, though it would be a tad humorous.

  54. roughnecks

this is how it looks on conversejs

  56. worlio.com

    Neat.

  57. worlio.com

Would be preferrable to nicknaming ones self to their server, that is for sure.

  58. jonas’

ftr, authbot hands out membership to those who join with a JID which is also advertised in the XEP-0157 contact info of the JID's domain

  61. Guus

agris: apparently, yes. He didn't start doing this yesterday.

  62. agris

1000 servers is a lot to manage full of real people with social problems

  63. agris

I'm curious how mattj is able to handle such a large task

  64. worlio.com

    MattJ is a robot.

  65. worlio.com

    That is my theory.

  66. Licaon_Kter

He's the abuse contact, not the server manager....

  67. worlio.com

Of course, he would not confirm this because it is a secret. He must conceal his mechanical identity.

  68. agris

That's how fediverse servers end up turning to shit and how big corporations let atrocities, hate, bullying, child victimization, etc happen on their servers

  69. Licaon_Kter

I bet he has a lot of lua scripts or smnh

  70. Licaon_Kter

I bet he has a lot of lua scripts or smth

  71. agris

It becomes too big to manage and the people tasked with "trust and safety" end up treating every issue like a ticket to be closed as fast as possible with any detail

  72. worlio.com

Solution: Throw out trust and safety, just ban people who disrupt server traffic. Make no promises. I live on the edge.

  73. snikket dot deeeeee

You're interpreting it wrong. This wasn't about beeing the single moderator

  74. worlio.com

Yeah, he's just a support. One of multiple on servers. He's just apart of the process sometimes.

  75. worlio.com

Yeah, he's just a support/abuse. One of multiple on servers. He's just apart of the process sometimes.

  76. agris

I don't like that la ze fair attitude towards server management. The internet in a network of other people's networks and if you just let anything go as long as you keep the servers up you're going to hurt a lot of people very badly along the way, make some enemies and potentially break laws

  77. worlio.com

    There are block features.

  78. snikket dot deeeeee

What are you actually ranting about agris? I see some good moderation here and not much abuse

  79. agris

I'm not ranting. I'm just concerned with a single person managing such a large amount of servers about moderator burnout.

  80. worlio.com

    He isn't "managing" them all.

  81. MattJ

agris: the servers have abuse contacts, I'm not burnt out by moderation duties

  82. worlio.com

Servers can have multiple moderators, multiple contacts, multiple people behind it.

  83. MattJ

This channel contributes more to that than anything else πŸ™‚

  84. agris

MattJ: how do you manage so many servers and not get burned out?

  85. worlio.com

agris: I think you are misunderstanding.

  86. agris

    Probably?

  87. MattJ

Automation, mostly, and it's basically my job

  88. agris

You get paid full time to do it?

  89. agris

Have you published your automation yet? Is it for sale?

  90. worlio.com

MattJ could have so many hats right now. An eifel tower or two high.

  91. agris

That would be very useful for other server admins/moderators

  92. MattJ

agris: it's paid hosting, and the automation is using open-source tools such as ansible and docker

  93. worlio.com

I'm a believer in the human being.

  94. agris

Isn't that for sysadmin stuff though?

  95. MattJ

Yes, that's the bulk of the work
