Do you know if any commercial XMPP service operator has already asked to Meta to have access to WhatsApp apis?

Mari0: which part of "Meta controls the client" sounds like something XMPP fans wanna do?

Licaon_Kter: Do none of the WhatsApp clients in F-droid work?

U trolling?

Don't know if XMPP old time fans/ users wanna do/ have it, but it seems to me more like an opportunity than a negative thing

WhatsApp giving access to api XD

In the near future Element will give access to 1:1 chat with wa. WA will change terms and conditions starting from 11th of april
-

Maybe ot, but is there any pq plans for onemo?
-
Mari0
I understood it's not only a matter of clients apps integration but also a service issue (media file exchange is s2s if I'm not wrong).
-
Licaon_Kter
amarachi: was asked several times, it depends on clients and their available libs to such pq
-
Licaon_Kter
Eg. The network is 'stuck' at omemo v0.3
-
amarachi
is there a migration plan? deadline to eventually switch?

EU could have done something useful like mandated a standard protocol be used and instead we got this which is completely useless lol

>> Don't know if XMPP old time fans/ users wanna do/ have it, but it seems to me more like an opportunity than a negative thing > Mari0: hard disagree, WA and other walled gardens should die, not be helped along by our hard work You're already helping, 'cause in wa interoperability there is an XMPP protocol implication 😀 afaik

"helping" in terms of every person that joins or stays on WA is a loss, vs every person that joins or stays on XMPP is a win
-
MSavoritias (fae,ve)
that wasnt the question that was asked by Mari0 tho before all this usual pile-on on WA
-
Mari0
> "helping" in terms of every person that joins or stays on WA is a loss, vs every person that joins or stays on XMPP is a win totally agree with you but more interoperability is more mobility outside the walled garden :-) thinking about a better future, just imagining it is a step forward ;-)

my 85 years father and 81 mother are using xmpp (off course) but also WhatsApp, if they could chat with their wa friends using XMPP could be a good win

the question was in regards to dma and if an xmpp operator has cut a deal with Meta to get access to WA apis
