  11. cascabek

    > at risk of causing you even more embarassment, why did you post a picture of a young lady, naked below the waist, with a giant dick earlier? 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

  12. cascabek

If the service operator room can't handle spam that doesn't bode well for the service at large, does it.

  13. Lightning Bjornsson

No cascabek, it just means that there are few mods and as a mature platform, there are a lot of spammers

  14. Lightning Bjornsson

No cascabek, it just means that there are few mods and as a mature platform, there are a lot of spammers and trolls

  15. cascabek

    Its bek.ca

  17. rom1dep

    The heck happened here 😔

  18. jonas’

    spam.

  19. Licaon_Kter

Oh, I thought the ISP Fast Lanes was the shock rom1dep felt :))

  20. rom1dep

Licaon_Kter: haha, that would be depressing

  21. Polarian

    > https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2024/04/internet-service-providers-plan-subvert-net-neutrality-dont-let-them meh

  22. Polarian

    not a big deal

  23. Polarian

There is still many ISPs which will provide the service you require

  24. moparisthebest

    > There is still many ISPs which will provide the service you require Polarian: for context that's US specific and in any given place in the US has only 1 ISP, not many, hence it is a big deal

  25. Polarian

    >> There is still many ISPs which will provide the service you require > Polarian: for context that's US specific and in any given place in the US has only 1 ISP, not many, hence it is a big deal hmm... sounds like a monopoly to me

  26. snikket dot deeeeee

    divide and conquer

  27. t4d

at least canada is ok! we just have _three_ isps

  28. t4d

and they're crown companies, iirc, so the government supports them lol

  29. t4d

    certainly nothing wrong there ;)

  30. snikket dot deeeeee

Have a good government and everything is OK.

  31. Polarian

here on the UK we have `UINT_MAX` isps

  32. Polarian

    its nuts

  33. t4d

    > Have a good government and everything is OK. yeah i agree honestly

  34. Polarian

    > Have a good government and everything is OK. says the German :)

  35. snikket dot deeeeee

Polarian: As if some more non state ISP would help in case of a bad government

  36. Polarian

    > Polarian: As if some more non state ISP would help in case of a bad government I rather private ISPs than national

  37. Polarian

national sounds like an awful idea

  38. snikket dot deeeeee

What I want to say next is off topic here... 😂

  39. Polarian

    start your own ISP?

  40. mko

    Polarian

  41. Polarian

    yellow(

  42. Polarian

    yellow?

  43. mko

    Theres no escaping the spyware

  44. mko

Throw your device out the window if you dont like ISP spying Polarian

  45. jonas’

this is getting off-topic, once more.

  46. snikket dot deeeeee

Let's not talk about that here either. For general philosophy, there are other rooms

  47. mko

All the other rooms are dead

  48. jonas’

    also not on-topic here, mko

  49. Polarian

    jonas’: its annalt

  50. Polarian

    jonas’: its a alt

  51. Polarian

    jonas’: its an alt

  52. jonas’

what is an alt of what?

  53. kapad

» for context that's US specific and in any given place in the US has only 1 ISP, not many, hence it is a big deal on the other hand `many` is just a theory, in practice if an ISP activates a fast lane is just because of more money, all ISPs likes money, so in real-life, if one start act like this, all will follow. is the market...

  54. mko

So are all of the xmpp services dead or are there some active ones

  55. Polarian

    > what is an alt of what? yesterday spam

  56. f_

how often does spam like this happen?

  57. f_

    Here, I mean.

  58. Polarian

    not common

  59. jonas’

alright, moderation update: unless you are a verified server operator or otherwise well-known member of the community, the room is now read-only for you.

  60. jonas’

I intend it to stay that way, though that is subject to further discussion within the mod team.

  61. jonas’

I won't be giving out "voice" manually at this point, please see the channel rules for how to get voice beyond that.

  62. Polarian

So I will lose message access?

  63. jonas’

Polarian, for whichever reason, you are marked as member already, though you don't seem to come from the verified operators category.

  64. Polarian

    what how?

  65. jonas’

another implication of this rule change is that because "verified server operator" is a technical thing enforced by server-side software, we cannot de-voice verified server operators selectively; the only moderator action we have in that case is a ban, so please behave.

  66. jonas’

Polarian, don't know, and I suggest you don't pry further :-).

  67. Polarian

    > Polarian, don't know, and I suggest you don't pry further :-). I will take the win :)

  68. Polarian

    apologies for the spam BTW

  69. jonas’

let's just keep it quiet now.

  70. ralphm

    Thanks Jonas!

  71. deimosBSD

I wonder if my servers respond to that xep

  72. Licaon_Kter

    deimosBSD: XEP-0157?

  73. Menel

Your jid needs to be in the contact address

  74. deimosBSD

Yes, if thats the one mentioned in the channel details.

  75. deimosBSD

Yeah, my external contact accounts are not ones I use for anything but help/abuse.

  76. deimosBSD

Anyway, thanks for giving me voice.

  77. ogechukwukamma

fwiw you can add your jid for a second, rejoin, and remove it it would be nice to see authbot support hashed jids I'm sure many people here keep a distinct jid for abuse/support from the one they're actually chatting with here

  78. Polarian

deimosBSD: are you a public provider?

  79. Licaon_Kter

    Polarian: should not matter

  80. Polarian

    > Polarian: should not matter Well if you host a server to yourself... why do you need to be contactable... no abuse (apart from you) is possible.

  81. deimosBSD

    i host 4 xmpp servers

  82. deimosBSD

from two for family and friends (~50 people), one soon to be public, and one for work with lots of people on it

  83. Polarian

deimosBSD, experienced then. What software do you use? prosody?
