    Menel: and that's legally required?

  2. jonas-l

In Germany, the contact detaild (including name and address) is required as part of the imprint and due to the GDPR you need a privacy policy for public services and it must contain the contact details too; I personally consider services without complete privacy policy untrustworthy

someone's personal website with a "about me" doesn't need a privacy policy or that surely?

  6. jonas’

    it does

  7. Polarian

they aren't storing data on you...

  8. jonas’

and it definitely needs an imprint

  9. Polarian

    hmmm

  10. Polarian

I know many German devs who have personal websites without privacy policy or anything

  11. Polarian

So even static content still needs a privacy policy?

  12. jonas-l

    > that's only if they are storing data though? If you don't store anything then you declare that. Most of the time, you have some logfiles. > someone's personal website with a "about me" doesn't need a privacy policy or that surely? If you advertise yourself then you need an imprint. If it is purely private without any commercial background then not.

Attention ! If you have ads on your site where you will get money for each click (there was something like bannersharing ages ago or cheap websites with ads), your side isn't free from commercial and you need an impressum.

  14. Menel

I think a personal website doesn't need it, like a nextcloud web frontend that could find...

  16. Menel

Nah, only injecting them in private messages, by context about what the users wrote about.

  17. ogechukwukamma

Wow! That is a great idea, I'm gonna make a prosody module that watches for keywords and injects respective text ads into users' messages. We can even create federated marketplace for adbuys!

How come no one has done that yet for xmpp?
