XMPP Service Operators - 2024-05-09

  1. jonas’

does anyone happen to know what software vk.jabbim.com is running?

  2. Holger

    jonas’, as per jabber:iq:version it’s <https://github.com/mrDoctorWho/vk4xmpp>, a bridge to vk.com.

  3. jonas’

    ... smart

  5. jonas’

I guess reporting an issue that their disco#info reply is invalid is pointless then.

  6. Menel

The website of the company behind that service service looks a bid dead. http://www.humboldtec.cz/ With update 2012

  7. Polarian

Does anyone use snikket (client) here?

  8. Polarian

    on iOS

  9. jonas’

Polarian, maybe, what's the actual question?

  10. Polarian

right... so I believe it was you jonas’ which said it worked well... however it assumes all HTTP uploads are https... I cant tell if this is a server side implementation error of XEP-0363 or whether it is a client bug

  11. Polarian

so if someone else can report it working on another server... then I can verify this 🙂

  12. jonas’

first, this is not a _client_ support room

  13. Polarian

this is an operators room, which handle the backend

  14. Polarian

as I suspect its a potential backend issue... thats why I asked

  15. jonas’

sure, but if a client seems to assume that stuff is https… that's a client topic.

  16. Menel

Http upload *must* be https If it isn't it is a server misconfiguration, and also a server but to even allow that

  17. jonas’

    that, too

  18. Menel

The xep said it must be https to I think it's OK for the client to assume that

  19. Polarian

    > Http upload *must* be https > If it isn't it is a server misconfiguration, and also a server but to even allow that when I said HTTP, I was referencing the XEP not the protocol

  20. Polarian

by plain text I meant a text file

  21. Polarian

    apologies

  22. Menel

Now I've no idea what you're even reporting. But maybe it indeed isn't a server operator problem anyway?

  23. Menel

Maybe report to where the issue is

  24. Polarian

sure, but if it ends up being my implementation upstream wont be happy... and its not me with the issue, is a friend... I am simply the operator 🙂

  25. Polarian

_not my personal implementation, the one I am using_

  26. Menel

We're also simply operators in this room. Please. Ask in the appropriate room

  27. MattJ

Polarian, Snikket iOS... is the server a Snikket server? Otherwise you're just going to have a hard time. Little reason not to just use Monal instead.

  28. Polarian

    > Polarian, Snikket iOS... is the server a Snikket server? Otherwise you're just going to have a hard time. Little reason not to just use Monal instead. not snikket server, and not me... its just errors being reported to me... and instead of being helpful, picking holes in my poor explanation and complaining I am in the wrong place isn't helpful, is it so hard to send a xmpp link to the right place? Its fine I will deal with it.

  29. Polarian

would have thought client compatibility with xmpp servers would be on topic, obviously not.

  30. Guus

I'm all for keeping the room on topic, but to me, this was a good faith request for help that got a harsher response than that it deserved.

  31. MSavoritias (fae,ve)

in context tho this person has been monopolizing the room for the past few days with endless discussions.

  32. jonas’

Polarian, fwiw, I *wanted* to direct you to a better place for a question about snikket iOS, but it didn't seem to me that you believed that this was indeed a client problem, rendering that suggestion moot.

  33. Polarian

    > in context tho this person has been monopolizing the room for the past few days with endless discussions. If you are referring to the talk about the security proposal made... I did offer to take that to somewhere else to stop blocking the channel, I wasn't the one who refused this, I also didn't realise I had a message quota, I must have exceeded my allowance, apologies...

  34. jonas’

no, I think that discussion was mostly fine in fact (otherwise I would've stopped it)

  35. Polarian

    Seems like others disagree.

  36. jonas’

I also don't think that you overstepped some kind of quota here.

  37. MSavoritias (fae,ve)

    > in context tho this person has been monopolizing the room for the past few days with endless discussions. (imo) if that helps. i dont speak for the room or some rule specifically.

  38. Menel

I didn't know you would need a link. Otherwise I would have provided one. I didn't even understand your issue. But I would suggest the server software room if you think it is a server issue or the client room if you think it is a client issue. https://search.jabber.network/search?q=Snikket xmpp:prosody@conference.prosody.im?join xmpp:ejabberd@conference.process-one.net?join
