XMPP Service Operators - 2024-06-26

  1. nuegia.net

does anyone have an example config for how to block based on s2s server useragent?

  2. nuegia.net

    is that possible?

  3. Kris

this is now the third time you repeat the same question. apparently not and also it is better to ask on the specific support chat of the xmpp server software that you are using.

  4. moparisthebest

nuegia.net: did you not see the 3 or 4 direct answers to that question above? :/

  5. jabbering-queer.net

Maybe they were offline at the time and their client doesn't support MAM?

  6. moparisthebest

    That's why I asked :)

  7. jonas’

if you are joined here with a client not supporting MAM, please use the online archives instead of repeating questions here.

  8. Polarian

hey jonas’ is there any scripts to filter through archives... I was planning to write something to crawl them because its so difficult to find any information... you got to know the day and then search through it that way... unless someone has already come up with a solution to this?

  9. Polarian

_its on my rather long todo list... which I am no where close to finishing_

  10. jonas’

Polarian, there might be, but I don't know of any such tool.

  11. MattJ

    It has an API

  12. MattJ

    It's documented in XEP-0313 :)

  13. jonas’

except, of course, search engine of your choice: https://duckduckgo.com/?t=h_&q=spam+site%3Alogs.xmpp.org&ia=web

  14. Polarian

MattJ, you are the developer of prosody correct?

  15. Polarian

jonas’, https://duckduckgo.com/?q=polarian+site%3Alogs.xmpp.org&t=h_&ia=web <--- this is scary

  16. jonas’

(though to be clear: I was not suggesting that everyone should search the archives whether a specific question has already been answered. what I meant was that if you ask a question and cannot stay online, the expectation is that you either have a client with MAM, or check the web logs. presumably, you then know which day you asked something)

  17. Polarian

oh great... the first link was me arguing with Licaon Kter :/

  18. Polarian

this was only 2 months ago and reading the archive makes me cringe... let me learn from said mistakes :)

  19. MattJ

Polarian, I started the project, but I'm not the only developer

  20. Polarian

    > Polarian, I started the project, but I'm not the only developer You seem to be everywhere :)

  21. Polarian

Great work on prosody though, its pretty much the standard these days

    💯 1
  22. MattJ

Last time I measured, the federated network is roughly half Prosody and half ejabberd, but with a small percentage of other servers (mostly Openfire, but there are even still some jabberds lurking in corners of the federation)

  23. MattJ

A lot of Jitsi instances too

  24. Count042

    > Great work on prosody though, its pretty much the standard these days 💯

  25. MattJ

Thanks though, always good to hear that people are enjoying it :)

  26. Polarian

I make up the small percentage using Openfire... but my server has no public registration

  27. MattJ

New major version is around the corner, once we get organized enough to release it

  28. Polarian

I used to run two servers, one prosody, open openfire

  29. Polarian

  30. moparisthebest

    MattJ: 1.0 ?

  31. moparisthebest hides

  32. MattJ

  33. MattJ

We're in the top 25 ranked by "0ver years"!

  34. moparisthebest

    perverse inventives... 🤣

  35. moparisthebest

    perverse incentives... 🤣

  36. Polarian

Didn't realise there was a cult around 0 major versions :P

  37. Polarian

    I normally start at 1.0.0 :P

  38. Martin

    > And lose our spot on https://0ver.org/ ? You must be joking! With current version: > 0.11.7 (2020) 🫣

  39. MattJ

Looks like a PR is needed :)
