I really really want XML compression on my XMPP clients.

  2. tom

Is there a way to do this with Gajim?

  3. moparisthebest

    Ask in the gajim room

  4. tom

It takes a very long time on congested network to sync mam.

Hello, I'm operator of kindly new XMPP server another.im Out team have some knowledge about operating private servers but this is our first public server with open inbound registrations. We implemented registrations per IP limits and added XEP-0377 to receive abuse report about our users misbehavior. We strongly believe in freedom of speech, so we wont spy on our users. However SPAM have nothing to do with freedom of speech and we gladly do anything to prevent it from our side.

support, I'd appreciate it if you would ask the moderators of my mucs before advertising on my server.

    > support, I'd appreciate it if you would ask the moderators of my mucs before advertising on my server. Our team have nothing to do with "advertising" in public MUC's. We are thinking this is kind of defamation SPAM campaign against us but have no evidence. We already spotted few freshly registered users who sharing invite links to our application in public MUC's and claiming what Conversations is "German Spyware", which is totally nonsence since we are ourselfs a fork of Conversations. On behalf of our team I'm want to apologize for inconvenience

Thank you very much for the explanation. You've come to the right place to exchange advice and information about preventing spam and abuse of the XMPP network.

  9. tom

    Thank you for clarifying that.

  10. tom

The people are are doing that are adding a strange ?rosterpreauth parameter to their invite urls. Any idea what it's for?

  11. Menel

tom: see https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0379.html#link_generation It is part of an invitation.

  12. Menel

To be in each other's roster

  13. tom

I figured, it's just the first time I've seen it being used. Prosody handles it differently.

  14. Menel

It isn't a server thing per se. You may think invites to register that look similar. It is possible to use these links as user invites (generelly only server admins can generate them) and also as contact invites.

  15. tom

Would anyone have issues federating if i switch from RSA to ECC certs now?

  16. Menel

No, it works for the whole chain, ECDSA from the letsencrypt root, intermediate and server cert without any issues for some time already.

  17. unix.dog

yeah i’ve been using ECC certs since i started the server. you might want to still use the RSA cross signed ISRG Root X1 chain just because the ISRG Root X2 is not included in older systems’ CA store (it was only added to debian in bookworm!)

  18. unix.dog

    https://letsencrypt.org/docs/certificate-compatibility/

  19. unix.dog

(using the X1 chain is the default so there’s nothing special you have to do there)

And Android 14+ which is super new
