Reminder: "XMPP Operators - a place for civil discussion between XMPP server operators about the XMPP network" (not: "The electrical grid and associated challenges")

  2. roughnecks

    yep, 404

  3. roughnecks

    > yep, 404 not intentional 🥲

  4. icebound.dev

    Hey: <iq type="get" id="577-7447" from="icebound.dev" to="mohrie.net"><ping xmlns="urn:xmpp:ping"/></iq> <iq type="error" id="577-7447" to="icebound.dev" from="mohrie.net"><ping xmlns="urn:xmpp:ping"/><error code="404" type="cancel"><remote-server-not-found xmlns="urn:ietf:params:xml:ns:xmpp-stanzas"/></error></iq> Can someone s2s mohrie.net

  5. icebound.dev

I wonder if this is an issue on my end or not, the operator says s2s for him is working

  6. Guus

I'm getting inconsistent results for mohrie.net

  7. icebound.dev

    > I'm getting inconsistent results for mohrie.net right, he says prosody shows no errors

  8. Guus

could be me, not sure. Unable to dig furhter right now

  9. icebound.dev

    > could be me, not sure. Unable to dig furhter right now right thx

  10. icebound.dev

any prosody operator available right now, could use your help :)

  11. Guus

It seems to work 50% of the time for me?

  12. icebound.dev

    > It seems to work 50% of the time for me? works 0% of the time for me

  13. icebound.dev

    > Hey: > > <iq type="get" id="577-7447" from="icebound.dev" to="mohrie.net"><ping xmlns="urn:xmpp:ping"/></iq> > <iq type="error" id="577-7447" to="icebound.dev" from="mohrie.net"><ping xmlns="urn:xmpp:ping"/><error code="404" type="cancel"><remote-server-not-found xmlns="urn:ietf:params:xml:ns:xmpp-stanzas"/></error></iq> > > Can someone s2s mohrie.net same thing over and over again when s2s testing

  14. icebound.dev

    oh now it works...

  15. icebound.dev

    hmm maybe theres multiple addresses...

  16. Martin

    I can s2s with icebound.dev and mohrie.net just fine.

  17. Guus

Maybe some kind of DNS records for which one points at a faulty thing?

  18. icebound.dev

    > I can s2s with icebound.dev and mohrie.net just fine. weird

  19. icebound.dev

    > Maybe some kind of DNS records for which one points at a faulty thing? checked their DNS, one one address both IPv4 and IPv6, maybe one of the protocols are broken

  20. icebound.dev

Martin, if you test a few times, do you get some fail and some succeed?

  21. icebound.dev

I keep getting a 404 when sending an xmpp ping to mohrie.net

  22. Martin

I tested several times and it worked everytime so far. Only LegacyIP seems to be pretty slow for mohrie.net.

  23. icebound.dev

I assume you are referencing IPv4 correct?

  24. icebound.dev

unfortunately Openfire doesnt let me test each protocol separately

  25. Martin

    Yes.

  26. icebound.dev

let me try your tool instead

  27. icebound.dev

    by slow wdym

  28. moparisthebest

at least buy him a drink first (sorry)

  29. icebound.dev

    what qualifies as "slow"?

  30. icebound.dev

    > at least buy him a drink first (sorry) what!??!

  31. moparisthebest

prosody used to have a bug that direct TLS would kinda break on cert upgrades, did the whole server get restarted?

  32. Martin

icebound.dev: I didn't measure the time, but >5s, maybe even >10s which is pretty slow.

  33. icebound.dev

    > prosody used to have a bug that direct TLS would kinda break on cert upgrades, did the whole server get restarted? not using directtls, as my server doesnt support it (laziness)

  34. icebound.dev

    > icebound.dev: I didn't measure the time, but >5s, maybe even >10s which is pretty slow. right so latency wise

  35. icebound.dev

ive ran 3 tests so far, fail pass fail

  36. icebound.dev

Sending server to server ping request to mohrie.net The stream is being closed by the peer

  37. Martin

Also no issues pinging from my xmppd…

  38. icebound.dev

    Martin, whats your tool again

  39. icebound.dev

I am getting constant ping failures

  40. tom

unix.dog, FreeBSD finally submitted some changes tp in6_selecthlim! https://cgit.FreeBSD.org/src/commit/?id=b5c46895fdddcdb7dd1994598925d6989ea7c8f2

  41. icebound.dev

    and a very rare success

  42. tom

You should apply these patches or wait for a hotfix to be pushed to release

  43. icebound.dev

    tom, you got a min?

  44. icebound.dev

can you s2s mohrie.net and see if it works

  45. tom

I can't. Gajim severely messed up their UI in the latest version and I don't know how to disco anymore.

  46. icebound.dev

    > I can't. Gajim severely messed up their UI in the latest version and I don't know how to disco anymore. you are an operator

  47. icebound.dev

    do it server side?

  48. icebound.dev

    are you prosody based?

  49. tom

    ok it works

  50. tom

I really hope a better XMPP client for unix comes along that also implements MaM besides Gajim

  51. tom

Every update seems to make it worse.

  52. Martin

    icebound.dev: xmpp-dns

  53. icebound.dev

    thx 🤣

  54. tom

    icebound.dev, s2s works

  55. tom

I was able to query your uptime too via adhoc

  56. icebound.dev

    > I was able to query your uptime too via adhoc mine or mohrie.net

  57. icebound.dev

    alright lemme restart my serve

  58. icebound.dev

    alright lemme restart my server

  59. icebound.dev

hmm weird... failure in xmpp-server lookup: lookup _xmpp-server._tcp.mohire.net on <my dns>: no such host

  60. icebound.dev

    yet... _xmpp-server._tcp.mohrie.net. 3186 IN SRV 1 5 5269 xmpp.mohrie.net.

  61. Martin

    mohire, not mohrie?

  62. icebound.dev

    oh fuck me typo 🤣

  63. icebound.dev

    thanks

  64. icebound.dev

    xmpps-server xmpp.mohrie.net. 5270 Priority: 0 Weight: 5 IP: 86.124.72.98 Test: [Not OK] dial tcp4 86.124.72.98:5270: i/o timeout xmpp-server xmpp.mohrie.net. 5269 Priority: 1 Weight: 5 IP: 86.124.72.98 Test: [Not OK] dial tcp4 86.124.72.98:5269: i/o timeout

  65. マリウス

that domain name is prone to typos

  66. icebound.dev

it appears like that yeah xD

  67. マリウス

    _looks who's talking_, I know

  68. icebound.dev

alright one sec lemme run xmpp-dns from my server which has IPv6 support too

  69. icebound.dev

alright as expected, IPv4 is flaky, Openfire must be prefering IPv4 over IPv6 theres a Java option to prefer IPv6 which I will try again right now

  70. tom

    > mine or mohrie.net mohrie.net

  71. tom

    > alright as expected, IPv4 is flaky, Openfire must be prefering IPv4 over IPv6 theres a Java option to prefer IPv6 which I will try again right now For some reason java upstream is set to prefer IPv4 over IPv6. This is insane and many operating system downstreams override this as part of the packaging and porting, however not all do such as FreeBSD. This can be changed through cmdline.

  72. tom

    > alright as expected, IPv4 is flaky, Openfire must be prefering IPv4 over IPv6 theres a Java option to prefer IPv6 which I will try again right now My servers are IPv6-only, with IPv4 support provided through transition technologies such as dns64 for nat64-plat

  73. moparisthebest

    your IPv6 privilege is showing

  74. icebound.dev

    > For some reason java upstream is set to prefer IPv4 over IPv6. This is insane and many operating system downstreams override this as part of the packaging and porting, however not all do such as FreeBSD. This can be changed through cmdline. I am aware, I have inserted the override

  75. icebound.dev

which has restored connectivity to mohrie.net

  76. icebound.dev

    > My servers are IPv6-only, with IPv4 support provided through transition technologies such as dns64 for nat64-plat yeah which explains why you have no issues

  77. icebound.dev

    > your IPv6 privilege is showing lol
