    > a lot of the big cornerstones of matrix are falling, such as envs.net recently shutting down their matrix and now having an xmpp matrx.envs.net shut down??!!!?

  2. array

out of all servers envs was the one server least expected to close

  3. Kris

Can we please not pollute this channel with so much off-topic talk?

  4. Nigel

No one has been posting for 5 hours, bit late.

  5. tom

    > Can we please not pollute this channel with so much off-topic talk? Can you chill

  6. sunglocto (sunglocto.net)

    > Can we please not pollute this channel with so much off-topic talk? funny how the only thing you do o this entire network is complain

  7. sunglocto (sunglocto.net)

    > Can we please not pollute this channel with so much off-topic talk? funny how the only thing you do on this entire network is complain

  8. Kris

You did all the off-topic complaining here (based on obvious falsehoods)

  9. Kris

    About SJN

  10. tom

    > avaya workplace and cisco jabber can even federate lol Do they sell xmpp clients?

  11. luna

those are both clients for the respective platforms which are based on XMPP

  12. MattJ

sunglocto (sunglocto.net), the personal attacks on others are not welcome here. Consider this a warning.

  13. MattJ

There was a lot of discussion here the past 24 hours, and it did drift between on and off topic. Generally we aim for this channel to have a high signal to noise ratio, reserving it for concrete discussions about issues on the XMPP network.

    👍 1
  14. icebound.dev

Kris, I raised a valid concern, please stop trying to discredit my concerns. I am aware you disagree, but you are no arbiter of truth, thus you can't say its based on falsehoods, especially how I provided a real example.

  15. icebound.dev

    > There was a lot of discussion here the past 24 hours, and it did drift between on and off topic. Generally we aim for this channel to have a high signal to noise ratio, reserving it for concrete discussions about issues on the XMPP network. Personally I think the discussion was very productive, a lot of the ideas raised I have been discussing outside of this MUC, and some might actually be implemented, albeit, not my idea because I haven't the knowledge to do so :p Maybe it might have been better suited for XSF discussions instead, however trying to stick too ontopic stifles any meaningful discussions. I think the majority of people here didn't mind the discussions last night.

  16. icebound.dev

and I apologise for any hostility between me and Kris.

If any operators are attending EMFCamp and willing to help advertise XMPP please contact me.

  19. creme

    hi

  20. icebound.dev

    hey

  21. creme [envs.net]

I thought I'd take a look here now, as I also run an XMPP server (Prosody) ;)

    🎉 4🎆 2
  22. icebound.dev

    welcome

  23. creme [envs.net]

I also ran the compliance test. I think everything is fine with the server. (https://compliance.conversations.im/server/envs.net/)

  24. icebound.dev

I took a look at your site, it seems like you have hopped over from Matrix?

  25. icebound.dev

also seems like you have a large community too.

  26. xa0.uk

  27. stratself

    hi creme !

  28. icebound.dev

    > _huge_ > 5 people so yeah :p

  29. icebound.dev

    > _huge_ it is > 5 people so yeah :p

  30. creme [envs.net]

Yes, I've been running a Matrix Synapse server for almost six years now... but the fact that the database was filling up so rapidly was just driving me crazy. That one service was so incredibly expensive for my project that I decided to switch to XMPP. However, I've closed the service registration and only make it available to my shell users via PAM.

  33. creme [envs.net]

    > it is > 5 people so yeah :p Yes, I definitely have just over 5 users. *ironic* :D

    > If any operators are attending EMFCamp and willing to help advertise XMPP please contact me. I will be there but not sure what I can do to help

  35. edhelas

Hello o/ Welcome to the /dev/sda 86% free team

    > > If any operators are attending EMFCamp and willing to help advertise XMPP please contact me. > I will be there but not sure what I can do to help setup and advertise XMPP :)

  37. icebound.dev

I want to apply to form an XMPP village

  38. luna

might setup a meshtastic -> XMPP bridge, that would be cool

  39. luna

I will mainly be doing telephony related stuff

  40. icebound.dev

I want to have 3 separate parts, an operator part where we have one or a few SBCs running a public XMPP server on site, so people can join that and chat until we decommission it at the end of the event. Then I want a client showoff, I can provide the devices, so I want android ios and maybe windows and linux? and we can show different clients, maybe print off some leaflets with installation steps for each platform.

  41. icebound.dev

oh and finally I forgot the last one, which will just be stickers :p

  42. icebound.dev

stickers, general FAQ and discussion about the protocol

  43. icebound.dev

    welcome Purplebored,

    👋 1
  44. icebound.dev

Purplebored, if possible could you stick the server your represent within your nick, or make it your nick, either works :)

  45. Purplebored

    yes of course

  46. AZERTY keyboard

    Oh welcome Purplebored and creme

    👋 2
  47. AZERTY keyboard

Also we have 2 based's rn lol

  48. icebound.dev

It would be useful if people put their servers as their nick, or within their nick so we can differentiate

  49. icebound.dev

for example AZERTY keyboard, I have no clue what server you admin

  50. moparisthebest

because it's none of your business :P

  51. icebound.dev

    > because it's none of your business :P the idea is that operators are able to be contacted if there is issues with their server, how do you contact someone if you don't know who is running which server?

    👍 1
  52. moparisthebest

next you'll ask for selfies and govt id

  53. icebound.dev

    > next you'll ask for selfies and govt id this is unhelpful

  54. AZERTY keyboard

    > for example AZERTY keyboard, I have no clue what server you admin I prefer it private

  55. moparisthebest

Like everyone else does, mention domain and problem

  56. icebound.dev

afaik it is not a requirement, but it has been recommended in the past, so please don't shoot me for supporting the idea.

  57. based.pt

    > Also we have 2 based's rn lol ?

  58. icebound.dev

    based and based.pt

  59. based.pt

    oh

  60. based.pt

    whos based?

  61. icebound.dev

    another based...

  62. based.pt

    whats the domain tho

  63. icebound.dev

I know it but I dont know if they want it released to the public so I wont say

  64. icebound.dev

    its ! based though

  65. based.pt

    ok

  66. icebound.dev

their username is based, not their domain

  67. based.pt

    ill trust

  68. based

i remember getting sent a message just saying "nigger" by unjustifiedblasphemy@based.pt or something like that

  69. based

i kinda just ignored it as it didnt happen again lol

  70. based.pt

    we dont have that username

  71. stratself

    >> because it's none of your business :P > the idea is that operators are able to be contacted if there is issues with their server, how do you contact someone if you don't know who is running which server? run a mod_disco like whatever authbot is doing, duh

  72. stratself

    >> because it's none of your business :P > the idea is that operators are able to be contacted if there is issues with their server, how do you contact someone if you don't know who is running which server? run a mod_disco iq like whatever authbot is doing, duh

  73. based

based.pt: odd, mightve been something different, i dont have the username in my client anymore

  74. based

i was really confused cuz it wasnt even a spammer

  75. icebound.dev

    > run a mod_disco iq like whatever authbot is doing, duh that won't work unless they peer with my server will it? lol

  76. based.pt

    > i was really confused cuz it wasnt even a spammer my server is probably not even 1 year old and not many accounts were made

  77. based.pt

    rn its invite only

  78. based

    maybe im mistaken then

  79. icebound.dev

    > maybe im mistaken then check through your MAM?

  80. icebound.dev

filter yourself from the search for that word, because you are pretty much the only other person who uses that word on a daily basis.

  81. based

    unjustified_blasphemy@nigga.pt

  82. based

    that was the jid

  83. based

    > filter yourself from the search for that word, because you are pretty much the only other person who uses that word on a daily basis. not really no

  84. based

polarian can you like stop with trying to start personal stuff everywhere even when its entirely irrelevant

  85. icebound.dev

Oh wait its duion which has my MAM filled witht hat word

  86. based

duion is in mucs aside from tbt?

  87. based

the second he got admin i got kicked

  88. icebound.dev

    > polarian can you like stop with trying to start personal stuff everywhere even when its entirely irrelevant I was mistaken apologises, you only appear about 2-3 times, duion is like 30+

  89. based

also it wasnt in a muc, it was a direct message

  90. based.pt

    > that was the jid damn

  91. based.pt

i dont really monitor that domain

  92. based.pt

    actually i dont monitor anything

  93. stratself

    >> run a mod_disco iq like whatever authbot is doing, duh > that won't work unless they peer with my server will it? lol idk, mod_disco should be "public" i believe

  94. stratself

if they lie or block you they'll probably not adhere to your solution of nicknaming as their server domain

  95. based

based.pt: wasnt even spam, was just a weird occurence lol

  96. based.pt

    ye, goofy people

  97. creme [envs.net]
