Is there an admin of jabber.de around? Looks like the server is having some spam issue. I'm considering blocking the server until the spam is contained but was wondering if the admin is aware of the situation

I'm afraid that the admins of jabber.de are looked for frequently here, but are not found here, afaik.

yeah jabber.de just doesn't respond

icebound.dev
I did try to contact them a while back iirc

maybe something to implement for providers, an ability to report servers which are poorly maintained
-
moparisthebest
report them to the poorly maintained XMPP server police? lol
-
icebound.dev
no but the providers list tries to maintain a list of "good" servers for new users to sign up to
-
icebound.dev
the concern is that right now A and B providers could be picked, but yet be woefully unmaintained
-
icebound.dev
should they really be rated A or B if they aren't well maintained?

So I have been thinking about ways to mitigate Ofcom biting me for not complying with their laws, mainly through slowing the rate of sign up. So I wouldn't be able to be A or possibly B because I wouldn't have inband. However some providers have a webapp to sign up for an account. I was thinking initially of a mailing list/email to contact for an account, and then for them to be allocated that way, but then I was asked why not just do it web based, so in theory whats the general consensus for a webapp to sign up for an account, but then need manual approval because you can use it? Or I could just do inband registration, but I would be the influx of sign ups would cause issues with spam, but also cause trouble with ofcom.✎ -

My original idea was just charge a small amount of crypto per signup, so if people do spam my time banning them is refunded :p Issue is profiting from services then catches me in more laws, plus taking crypto as payment takes a while to setup.

I have also concluded the law is just a "prosecute anyone card" for the government, so as long as I don't cause enough of a fuss for the government I should be left alone whether I comply or not.
