hmm, with `!sync` it joined

now I don't understand why it says: Banned failor (just testing) by roughnecks but the user is still there (I see them in the participant list)

it works with jid, not by nickname (at least for me)

or perhaps restarting the bot after having it joined changed something

i skimmed the codebase and it smells of it, but i cant be too judgy ill often put llm slop there to get something working and then work my way backwards
