  1. tom

Would like to not have to block conversations.im from my mucs. Currently it's too easy for morph to make accounts there on a whim within minutes of each other.

  2. jjj333_p [pain.agency]

just go moderated for a couple days should do the trick

  3. jjj333_p [pain.agency]

even if you block c.im theyll just use another server so its honestly a little pointless

  4. singpolyma

really depends on your goals for the MUC. I could never go moderated on my big public one, but we have a lot of other restrictions in place

  5. tom

    Except they aren't

  6. tom

There was three or four servers morph was able to make bs accounts on easily and within the span of minutes, after exhausting their stockpile of throwaway accounts. Conversations.im was the primary one that primarily hosts legitimate users and isn't a poorly maintained or forgotten about host.

  7. jjj333_p [pain.agency]

one of the other ones is chatterboxtown.us which is apparently a cheogram default 🤨

  8. tom

    Yeah that one.

  9. agh

Too many people make a storm in a tea cup over Morph. It just feeds them. The Usenet adage is a proven technique, and easily applicable here, do not feed the trolls. Incidentally, the same can be applied to narcissists. Simplicity over complexity.

  10. tom

That doesn't help me restore full federation with c.im

  11. stratself

theres people literally advertising their open reg servers in other MUCs. So I guess the adage applies well

  12. stratself

plus, is morph an actual impactful threat? i tend to associate that name with some human-written trolling behavior that can be easily bannable, rather than something much more disruptive like spambots

  13. stratself

theres people literally advertising their open reg servers in other MUCs. So I guess the adage (of running faster than the next guy) applies well

  14. agh

    Storm in a tea cup.

  15. singpolyma

Indeed. The human level trolls also usually give up for awhile after concerted mod action IME

  16. based.pt

how do i add age verification to my server?

  17. based.pt

do i just ask for ID pic and selfie?

  18. AZERTY keyboard [Copper9]

If serious just do whatever Meta does

  19. Kris

obviously depends on the exact regulation in the country your server is located.

  20. Samson Smith

    > do i just ask for ID pic and selfie? I think you need to then verify it with some verification service

  21. Samson Smith

So you know it's not fake

  22. Kris

I don't think that is a general requirement

  23. based.pt

    > I don't think that is a general requirement to make it more reliable ig

  24. Kris

if you did an honest good effort and were fooled by someone that is typically ok. again depends on the exact legislation in the country in question.

  25. Kris

involving a 3rd party is often legally tricky as well

  26. Kris

I would try to avoid that if I were hosting in a country that required such nonsense age verifications

  27. based.pt

they dont require, i just want to

  28. moparisthebest

    > do i just ask for ID pic and selfie? Yes, then sell it to advertisers and govts

  29. based.pt

    great idea

  30. based.pt

    you really are the best

  31. moparisthebest

I mean that's the whole point of all these laws and why facebook is bankrolling them so /shrug

  32. jjj333_p [pain.agency]

depending on the area, a html checkbox might be all you need

  33. jjj333_p [pain.agency]

which tbf if i ever made my hs more open than "invite tree" i would probably do just for my own comfort
