> MattJ and I have considered a more active presence at SOOCon. I also know Terrance Eden reasonably well, so can ask about it. As I understand things, OpenUK were aiming to organise a batch of smaller, non-London events this year but I lost track of whether they were organised or happened. I put in a request for stand after speaking to Terrance at oggcamp last weekend (explained in XSF channel), if you want to take over the running of it as you and MattJ are likely much better than me, I will see if I can get them to cc everyone in. ↺

Polarian
apologies I was not aware you or MattJ were looking into SOOCon as well, I did ask like 3 times in XSF discussions about it :)
-
Polarian
admittedly Terrance told me he didn't really know much about the requirements or how the stands are choosen, and told me to put a request in and see what happens, so I did ;)
-
Polarian
I said I would ask him in XSF discussions, because he was at the conf with me, while I was doing outreach.
-
Polarian
dwd do you or MattJ have any more stickers or leaflets, I have half of the stickers I was given to distribute after FOSDEM, and I lost all the leaflets (pretty sure the cleaners for the conference threw the spares in the bin *sigh*)
-
Polarian
those half I want to dump at EuroBSDCon and or BSDNL
-
Polarian
I also might be at omniopencon in Romania because I have friends there, so its cheap for me to attend. So I am not sure I will have enough to do 3 more confs xD
-
MattJ
"Looking into" about sums up my activity on it so far. I still think it's a good idea, but I don't even know the dates or the application process.
-
Polarian
MattJ, I put the application in, which is nothing more than a google form putting the url of the organisation and providing a liason to contact if accepted.
-
MattJ
If I have stickers/leaflets, I think I only have Snikket ones. I'd have to check how many. I think I left most of them in the boxes this year, rather than bring them home.
-
Polarian
I am not even sure if we get to pick the venue this year, as they are doing lots of small ones, or we are allocated one?
-
Polarian
I rather not travel up to Scotland 🤔
-
Polarian
Cambridge I think would be ideal for all 3 of us, I know you are in the midlands, I am in London and dwd I don't know, but I assume somewhere south of Manchester :p
-
MattJ
I'd be okay with Scotland, probably
-
Polarian
Will see if they even allocate a stand, I am unsure if/when they plan to reply back. My previous experiences with SOOCon is they do everything last minute.
-
Polarian
I suspect they will email back within a month of the conf, when I applied for a student ticket last time I got it weeks before the actual conf.
-
MattJ
Cambridge is actually annoying for me due to the lack of functional east-west rail, basically have to travel through London
-
Polarian
> Cambridge is actually annoying for me due to the lack of functional east-west rail, basically have to travel through London ah right, forgot about that one. ↺
-
Polarian
still faster than Scotland though...
-
MattJ
True :)
-
Polarian
so maybe you just really hate London :p
-
Polarian
~who doesn't?~
-
Polarian
but yeah I have been looking for probably a month now, maybe more, for a conf that XSF members in the UK can reliably attend. and discussed it with quite a few people. the other Matthew might be interested as well, I will ask them next month at librelocal in London
-
Polarian
(which hes hosting, I posted the info to the members mailing list, if anyone from XSF membership is interested in a FOSS meetup)
-
Polarian
oggcamp might actually have been a good candidate for it, it had a decent number of attendees, and I got quite a lot of support for my onboarding talk there, was swamped for the rest of the evening asking about XMPP and somewhat BSD too because its what I run on my laptop :p
-
Daniel
The Other Matthew(tm) has also talked about hosting a sprint in London, which I'd be very interested in. (I don't hate London 🙃)
-
Polarian
> The Other Matthew(tm) has also talked about hosting a sprint in London, which I'd be very interested in. (I don't hate London 🙃) You are in NRW iirc, which has fast rail access to London too :p ↺
-
Polarian
and flights too :p
-
Polarian
but yeah I should ask him about that too next month 🤔
-
Polarian
as far as I am aware hes been quite busy the past for months, im still waiting on some responses from him :)
-
Polarian
I say next month, but thats literally tomorrow.
-
dwd
I think I'd be up for a sprint in London, depending on timing.

Polarian: for stickers and leaflets, which you seem to be handing out efficiently, I think SCAM can reimburse you when you get them reproduced locally. If that is feasible for you, let's have a chat on costs and quantities.
-
Daniel
I'm not sure how much I can help remotely for the London sprint but I'm certainly willing to offer some guidance if need be
-
dwd
Roughly when are we thinking for a London Sprint?
-
MattJ
Polarian, I don't hate London, but travelling through it can be annoying :)
-
MattJ
I don't think any dates have been provided yet, IIRC Matthew said some time around summer
-
Polarian
> Polarian: for stickers and leaflets, which you seem to be handing out efficiently, I think SCAM can reimburse you when you get them reproduced locally. If that is feasible for you, let's have a chat on costs and quantities. well it seems oggcamp fucking threw the remaining, I went back to the room to collect the spares which didn't distribute and they were all gone >:( ↺
-
Polarian
I was smart with this though and only placed a small amount of stickers on the table, and then topped them up as needed.
-
Polarian
the leaflets were old when it came to FOSDEM anyways so I am not too fussed if they were thrown, I only took them because they were going in the bin at FOSDEM if I didn't :p
-
Polarian
Guus feel free to PM me if you want to discuss, you know my JID
