XSF Discussion - 2011-03-16

  1. Vanaryon

    Hi!

  2. Kev

    Hello.

  3. Vanaryon

I would like to submit a little change to the microblogging XEP (file attach feature), can I speak about it here?

  4. Kev

    Try the standards@ list.

  5. Vanaryon

    All right, thanks ;)

  6. Vanaryon

It's a missing feature for microblogging, that you can see running in Jappix (https://www.jappix.com/) ;) I will send a little mail

  7. Vanaryon

Kev, do you know any other XMPP client using this XEP right now?

  8. Vanaryon

I'd like to see how others are integrating it in their clients ;)

  9. Kev

No, I think everyone decided the XEP wasn't much use and is waiting for / work ing on something better.

  10. Vanaryon

Okay, I see. So a complete XEP revision will be done (another XML scheme, ...) ?

  11. Vanaryon

    Message sent to standards@ ;)

  12. stpeter

    thanks!

  13. Vanaryon

Did you received it? I did not get mine from the list, that's strange :S (or your ML server does not send the sender message back to him?)

  14. Kev

I've not received it. Are you subscribed?

  15. Vanaryon

    Kev, yes

  16. Vanaryon

    Sent again

  17. Vanaryon

My message is HTML encoded, does this affect the ML server?

  18. Vanaryon

Strange, I did not get it back again. Are the ML servers up?

  19. Kev

It's fairly unlikely that they aren't.

  20. Vanaryon

Maye I should send the mail to someone of you who will send it via their own address?

  21. Vanaryon

    *Maybe

  22. Kev

    Can do if you want.

  23. Vanaryon

    I PM-ed you ;)

  24. Kev

    I know.

  25. stpeter

    heh

  26. stpeter

Vanaryon: you need to send the message from the same address you used to subscribe

  27. Vanaryon

    stpeter : I did ;)

  28. Kev

    stpeter: I already checked that.

  29. Kev

    Or asked that, rather.

  30. stpeter

    ok

  31. stpeter goes back to reviewing http://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-ietf-httpbis-content-disp-08

  32. bear

i'm wondering with all of the TZ changes if folks are going to be -1 and +1 on the meeting time

  33. Kev

Council managed - it'd be a sad reflection on Board if they couldn't ;)

  34. bear

    :P

  35. stpeter

    hi

  36. bear

    hi

  37. stpeter

I'm coming to loathe daylight saving time

  38. bear

    same

  39. bear

    tho i don't have your tech-jetsetter roblems

  40. bear

we don't have a quorum I think - any pressing issues that need looking into?

  41. Kev

I'm not going to bug anyone about GSoC this week :)

  42. bear

    yea - we are pending

  43. stpeter

    :)

  44. bear

ok, 5 or so minutes and i think we should call it

  45. stpeter

    WFM

  46. bear

k, i'll draft an email asking for agenda items for next mtg. will be busier as that is post gsoc deadline

  47. bear bangs gavel

  48. stpeter

    yep

  49. stpeter

I'll be here next week and then offline the following week

  50. bear

    k

  51. Will

    i've missed a meeting haven't i?

  52. stpeter

    well

  53. stpeter

I think bear just called it on account of quorum

  54. Will

i'm useless, I will do penance by editing web pages on xmpp.org

  55. jack

i won't be availbale next week, as i'm teaching a class on XMPP in San Fran

  56. stpeter

    jack: cool

  57. stpeter

Will: yeah I stalled on that because I got busy with IETF preparations

  58. Will

    i don't envy you

  59. stpeter shrugs

  60. stpeter

also the RFC revisions are very close to being published, so I've had final review work with the RFC Editor

  61. bear

next week will probably be gsoc planning if we are accepted

  62. Alex

    hey guys, how are you?

  63. stpeter

    hi Alex :)

  64. stpeter

    do we have a quorum?

  65. Alex

    yes we do

  66. Kev

    Yay.

  67. stpeter

    ah, good

  68. Alex

    ok, lets start

  69. Alex bangs the gavel

  70. Alex

our Agenda for today is here: http://xmpp.org/about-xmpp/xsf/meeting-minutes/xsf-member-meeting-2011-03-16/

  71. Alex

    1) Call for Quorum

  72. Alex

41 members have voted via proxy, so we have a quorum

  73. Alex

    2) Items Subject to a Vote

  74. Alex

New and Returning members , you can find the applications here: http://wiki.xmpp.org/web/Membership_Applications_February_2011

  75. Alex

    3) Opportunity for XSF Members to Vote in the Meeting

  76. Alex

does anybody wants to vote in the meeting?

  77. stpeter

I think everyone here has voted

  78. kurt.zeilenga

Alex, I like to request my votes, currently attributed to kdz@jabber.org <mailto:kdz@jabber.org>, be attributed to my JID of record, kurt.zeilenga@isode.com <mailto:kurt.zeilenga@isode.com>.

  79. Neustradamus

    hi all

  80. kurt.zeilenga

    that is, s/kdz@jabber.org <mailto:s/kdz@jabber.org>/kurt.zeilenga@isode.com/ in the records/minutes.

  81. Alex

    no problem Kurt

  82. stpeter

kurt.zeilenga: do we have cryptographic assurance that kdz@jabber.org is controlled by the same person who controls kurt.zeilenga@isode.com? ;-)

  83. kurt.zeilenga

    no.

  84. Alex

ok , lemme prepare the results

  85. Tobias

stpeter: can't you assure that by reading through years of chat archives of the kdz@jabber.org account? :D

  86. stpeter

    Tobias: perhaps :)

  87. stpeter

    hi Steven

  88. Steven Parkes

    late but ...

  89. Alex

    4) Announcement of Voting Results

  90. Alex

when you relead the page at: http://xmpp.org/about-xmpp/xsf/meeting-minutes/xsf-member-meeting-2011-03-16/ you can see the results

  91. Alex

all new and returning members were accepted

  92. stpeter

    ok!

  93. Alex

    5) Any Other Business?

  94. stpeter

I still need to propose a change to the bylaws about membership application periods

  95. stpeter

i.e., the clause about "Applications from prospective new members shall be accepted during the first 10 days of each quarter (i.e., in January, April, July, and October)"

  96. Alex

yes, and we have to finanlize the changed Dave proposed before the next board and council vote

  97. stpeter

    I don't remember that change

  98. Alex

don't remeber exactly either, have to check in the archieves again

  99. stpeter

    ok

  100. stpeter

so we need to get those proposals onto the agenda for the next meeting

  101. stpeter

that way, they will apply in September

  102. Kev

Did Dave get as far as proposing?

  103. Kev

I don't remember if he proposed, or proposed to propose.

  104. stpeter sends an email about it *right now*

  105. Alex

    its in this thread: http://mail.jabber.org/pipermail/members/2010-September/005961.html

  106. Alex

    6) Formal Adjournment

  107. stpeter

hmm, there are some formatting glitches at http://xmpp.org/about-xmpp/xsf/xsf-bylaws/ -- Will and I shall add that to our list of pages to fix

  108. Alex

    I motion that we adjourn

  109. stpeter

    seconded

  110. Alex bangs the gavel

  111. Alex

    thanks guys

  112. stpeter

    thank you, Alex!

  113. Alex

had discussions with dave about a new memberbot, based on sleek, lua or swiften

  114. Alex

we thought the members could decide on a framework and tsrat hacking on it

  115. stpeter

I'm all in favor of a new memberbot :)

  116. stpeter checks http://www.rfc-editor.org/authors/rfc6120-lastdiff.html

  117. stpeter

looks good, now I'll return to my review of http://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-ietf-sidr-arch-12 -- oh joy! ;-)

  118. Alex

need some food and have to watch the news, back later

  119. Kev

    Thanks Alex.

  120. Neustradamus

it is planned to update history ? http://xmpp.org/about-xmpp/history/

  121. stpeter

Neustradamus: yes, that's another page to be updated :)

  122. Neustradamus

    :)

  123. stpeter

Neustradamus: do you have editing privileges in WordPress?

  124. Neustradamus

Can you add a link to the mediawiki(http://wiki.xmpp.org/) ? example in the top menu ?

  125. Neustradamus

    I think yes

  126. stpeter

Neustradamus: where do you think the link to the wiki belongs? under "Resources"?

  127. stpeter

oh joy, I found a bug in Firefox that is causing my browser to freeze

  128. Neustradamus

the best solution will be "alone" : Wiki

  129. Kev

I don't think it deserves a top-level link. Below resources seems reasonable.

  130. stpeter

    agreed

  131. stpeter

I suppose I'll need to report this bug, because I can reproduce it...

  132. Neustradamus

    yes, I accept in resources

  133. Neustradamus

it is possible to redirect http://xmpp.net/ to http://xmpp.org/resources/certificates/ ?

  134. stpeter

I thought I had done that already

  135. Neustradamus

strange, I see always the "old page".

  136. stpeter

    hmm

  137. stpeter

    fixing

  138. Neustradamus

    ok :)

  139. stpeter

    try now

  140. stpeter

    hmph

  141. Neustradamus

    same :(

  142. stpeter

    yeah

  143. stpeter

ok, I'll add it to my list of things to check when I have time

  144. Neustradamus

    ok !

  145. Neustradamus

it is on your todo list too : http://xmpp.org/services/ ?

  146. stpeter

Neustradamus: I'll update the history page when the new RFCs are published

  147. Neustradamus

    ok :)

  148. stpeter

yes we need to fix the services page -- I know for a fact that the .xml file is used by clients (e.g., Miranda), and for now we might need to made the edits in the xml file and in WordPress (two edits instead of one, but at least we'll update the data!!!)

  149. stpeter

    brb

  150. Neustradamus

    ok

  151. dwd

Only three votes against me? I'm obviously failing to be suffieicntly contraversial.

  152. Kev

I think I usually manage significantly more than that.

  153. dwd

Nobody made me a wikipedia page, though. :-(

  154. stpeter

I wonder if http://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-ietf-sidr-ghostbusters-00 will run afoul of trademark laws

  155. stpeter

dwd: you don't have a wikipedia page? shocking!

  156. Neustradamus

    dwd :D

  157. dwd

stpeter, I know, I just don't understand it.

  158. dwd

stpeter, And as for sidr-ghostbusters, I suspect different fields of endevour.

  159. stpeter

dwd: there is no justice in the world!

  160. dwd

stpeter, There is no justice, there's just us.™

  161. dwd

Apparently Malcolm X. Always wondered that.

  162. stpeter

    Is that Malcolm X™ ?

  163. bear

oh poo - completely missed the meeting (hardware failure and #FAIL on me for not having a backup)

  164. stpeter

I don't have a backup system either, really
