BTW, I had discussions with some guys there a *long* time ago about adding XMPP support -- probably 2004 or 2005

Right. I remember Justin saying he was in talks with them about them using Psi as the base, when they were first developing their client.

one of the guys I talked with (at their London office when I was there in 2005) said that they used jabber groupchat as their communication method while they were developing the first version of Skype, but they promptly stopped using it once they had Skype

kind of like we used IRC before we had groupchat
