XSF Discussion - 2017-09-16

  1. jonasw

moparisthebest, yes, I’m not happy with that either. the build also depends on software hosted on sourceforge to build PDF files from the XML with an intermediate LaTeX step

  2. jonasw

we should probably put copies of all that on our own infrastructure

  3. Guus

jonasw: can I enlisted you with your automation magic at some point in the future? The website keeps a record of XSF members, with workteam affiliation in various places. Updates tend to forget some of those. It would be good if we could have one list, and generate the various content from that. Somewhat similar to what you did for the software listing.

  4. jonasw

    mhm

  5. jonasw

create an issue and assign me in the xmpp.org repository

  6. jonasw

will see the mail once I’m done with todays exam preparation part and consider whether I’m in the mood :)

  7. jonasw

(while I’m at it, I might also re-do the extension listing stuff, that sed three hurts my eyes)

  8. jonasw

    *there

  9. Guus

    Excellent

  10. Guus

    Good luck with the exams

  11. jonasw

    thanks

  12. jonasw

on the plus side, one chapter of the material was XMPP, soo ....

  13. Guus

    jonasw: https://github.com/xsf/xmpp.org/issues/366

  14. Guus

Cannot assign people in the mobile interface.

  15. jonasw

    can’t assign myself

  16. jonasw

but I get an email anyways

  17. jonasw

    so thanks

  18. Guus

    K

  19. jonasw

Guus, are there other team pages besides iteam and editor?

  20. jonasw

i.e. is there somewhere a page for board and council?

  21. Guus

Yes, on the XSF page. That has bio's for the members though. Also, there now is a page for the SCAM team.

  22. Guus

    jonasw ^

  23. jonasw

Guus, thanks, can you comment on the PR?

  24. jonasw

that’d be most useful to me right now, heading out

  25. Guus

ok - this already was blazingly fast, btw, tx!

  26. jonasw

    tx :)

  27. Guus

ah, technically, the SCAM team page wasn't there yet. https://github.com/xsf/xmpp.org/pull/365 remains unmerged.

  28. jonasw

Guus, do we really want SCAM on the membership list? not something like "conferences" or so?

  29. Guus

jonasw: I've thought about that, but the full name is to long, and another name is ... well, not it's name. If we pick funny names, we'll have to suffer the consequences.

  30. Zash

    Hah

  31. Ge0rG

https://www.cyberscoop.com/jabber-xmpp-cybercrime-russia-encrypted-chat/ another data point on the naming. From April 2017

  32. SouL

    Jaber, also known as XMPP...

  33. SouL

    :D

  34. pep.

I guess that's what XMPP is, a platform for hackers and cybercriminals!

  35. daniel

    Not just *cyber* criminals fwiw

  36. pep.

    right

  37. jonasw

daniel, in your presentation at the c3d2 earlier this year, how did you classify IM systems in generations again?

  38. daniel

jonasw, that wasn't me. that was Astro who did the general xmpp talk

  39. jonasw

    ah damn

  40. jonasw

    right, you presented the XSF

  41. jonasw

    going to ask Astro then

  42. daniel

iirc he just copied that from nyco

  43. jonasw

    is that somewhere online?

  44. jonasw

Guus, I only used make devserver for testing my PR, I didn’t know off the top of my head how the docker magic works. did you test it with docker?

  45. Guus

jonasw: yes. The command is easy:

  46. Guus

    make -f MakefileDocker all serve
