Ge0rGdaniel: what was the background of the "joining MUCs with bare JID" discussion at 34c3?
mathieuiGe0rG, what discussion?
Steve KilleTravis seems slow this year
mathieuiit was about receiving presence updates from the bare JID of a MUC in order to have a room avatar
mathieuiand whether that would break clients or not
jonaswSteve Kille, oh yes
SouLReally nice to put logos and such
jonaswa lot of my things on it time out
jonaswit’s been slow-ish since somewhere between christmas and new years
Ge0rGmathieui: ah, okay. It wasn't quite clear to me from the summary
Ge0rGmarc: what's the status of your proto XEP?
marcGe0rG, didn't work on it because of christmas days, 34c3 and new year's eve
marcGe0rG, but I'll work on it this week
Ge0rGmarc: that's great!
Ge0rGI'm pondering whether I should write an Informational XEP "Best Practices for operating a Public Server"
jonaswseems like a useful document
marcWhat will be the content? "Don't do this!!1!"? :D
Ge0rGAny suggestions for what to write into it beyond what's in the last section of https://yaxim.org/blog/2017/12/22/spam-reduction-on-yax-dot-im/
SouLIf Ge0rG is writing that, yes, it would be "Don't do it" haha
marcGe0rG, do you think it's a problem even if the capatch for IBR is strong enough to prevent account abuses?
Ge0rGI have a hard time not quoting spiderman.
jonaswGe0rG, I’d suggest a few XEPs which are nice-to-have
Ge0rGjonasw: beyond 0387?
jonaswpossibly not. buf referring to the "most recent compliance suite" is probably good
Ge0rGmarc: I don't know if there is a captcha strong enough to prevent account abuse.
marcGe0rG, but automatic account abuse (and spam) is the main reason for not running a public server, right?
jonaswGe0rG, after further thought, your document should indeed focus on the operational side of things. Having another XEP which advocates implementation of XEPs (which are irrelevant to the operational side but merely provide features, so unlike XEP-0157) would be bad.
Ge0rGjonasw: I'm glad you said that
jonaswbut "Keep up-to-date with recent compliance suites and evaluate their implementation" should be one point for operations.

MattJI'll remind waqas :)
AlexMattJ: good idea
pep.Ge0rG, sorry I'm only getting started in the minute taking slavery business :P I might get better at it eventually
pep.Depends how long you'll be able to bear with me
Ge0rGpep.: we could use a council minute taker ;)
Ge0rGAdmittedly, there are some great volunteers already.
pep.tbh I don't like taking notes. I always lose track of what's going on when I start writing stuff down, plus I can't take part anymore :x
pep.But it's a good exercise, maybe I should do it more often
pep.Though taking minutes from a chatroom discussion is probably easier, as I don't have to remember what's been said
Steve Killejonasw: THANKS! that was quick
jonaswSteve Kille, np
Ge0rGjonasw: do you have a colored diff URL as well?
jonaswGe0rG, AFAIK the service doesn’t exist anymore
Ge0rGjonasw: so sad.
jonaswfeel free to set one up :)
Ge0rGjonasw: I'd append that to my TODO list, but it's full already.
Steve KilleGe0rG: the PR is a well structured sequence of commits, so you can quite easily see the changes from them
