  2. edhelas

funny thing is that Purism is in partnership with Matrix :)

  3. jonasw

yeah, that’s probably why they’re using libpurple.

  4. jonasw

make the xmpp stuff as awful as possible ;-)

  5. jonasw

    (not serious, obviously)

  6. nyco

    board meeting, soon

  7. MattJ

    .

  8. nyco

    go?

  9. Guus

    o/

  10. Guus

    Ralphm, Martin?

  11. nyco

    we're, good enough

  12. nyco

    3

  13. Guus

I'm kinda stressing to make a deadline

  14. nyco

    sure, so we cancel, postpone?

  15. Guus

    let's call todays attendance 2.5 🙂

  16. Guus

    Oh, please continue

  17. nyco

    is 2.5 a quorum?

  18. Guus

if we get three votes it is

  19. MattJ

    I'm good

  20. nyco

    ;-)

  21. MattJ

    Let's go

  22. MattJ

    0) Role call

  23. MattJ

    Guus, nyco and myself

  24. MattJ

    Minutes... anyone?

  25. MattJ

    I'll do them

  26. Guus

    I'll wrt... ok 🙂

  27. MattJ

    1) Agenda bashing

  28. MattJ

Anyone with anything not on Trello?

  29. nyco

    board's prio, thx to survey

  30. MattJ

That's on Trello, I was just looking at it ;)

  31. nyco

    yep

  32. nyco

    https://trello.com/c/Al4GHsYy/311-proposed-prios-for-the-2018-2019-board-based-on-survey

  33. MattJ

    2) Topics for decisions: Proposed priorities for the 2018-19 board

  34. MattJ

I've not finished reading or ingesting the proposals yet

  35. MattJ

So I propose we all take a look at them and discuss on Trello/list/next week and make whatever decisions we need to make, if any

  36. nyco

seems like we're good on protocol, and we can stay neutral on software

  37. nyco

    +1

  38. Guus

Nyco mentioned he prepared for this, but I've not read it yet

  39. Guus

    oh, that's that link

  40. Guus

eh, yeah, let's give Ralph and Martin time to look at that too

  41. Guus

nyco, maybe share them on the board mailinglist?

  42. MattJ

    Ok, moving on

  43. MattJ

    +1 to that

  44. nyco

    ok

  45. MattJ

    3) Commitment for the week ahead (right...): Collect info on role of ED

  46. MattJ

I think someone else needs to take this on, who isn't Martin

  47. MattJ

I can bring it up on the list

  48. Guus

    ok.

  49. MattJ

    4) Topics for discussion

  50. Guus

i suspect some people may want to tie in the discussion I started with regards to longer tenure

  51. Guus

    (nevermind, please go ahead)

  52. MattJ

I see 3 items: finances and fundraising, ED replacement, change of board tenure

  53. MattJ

I believe the first two are currently stalled on other things, with no updates

  54. MattJ

Does anyone have anything they want to say about them?

  55. Guus

I'm unsure of the state of the finance/fundraising with existing / old sponsors. I've not heard back from Peter, and neglected to follow up for a couple of weeks.

  56. Guus

But I think we might want to include others than just Peter for following up with sponsors

  57. MattJ

    +1

  58. MattJ

    4.1) Change of board tenure

  59. Guus

I'll try to reach out and discuss this with him

  60. MattJ

This has had some discussion on the lists, I haven't been through it all yet

  61. Guus

board tenure: there was some discussion in the mailing list, of which I read only half (some kind of mail problem, I think)

  62. MattJ

I'm not really sure of my thoughts on the matter yet

  63. Kev

I think one question answers it.

  64. MattJ

    Kev, the question being?

  65. Kev

How often have we been in a position that someone was wanted to do more than one year, but the membership decided to replace the entire Board instead (and part two, if the membership decides it doesn't want any to stay on, is that a sign)?

  66. MattJ

Well, we can reflect on that and discuss next week

  67. Guus

I like how you make one question have two parts. 🙂

  68. Kev

My memory of votes is that the membership almost always votes in incumbents for Council/Board when they stand, and the issue with Board continuity is mostly people not wanting to do another year.

  69. Kev

Guus: My use of English is, hopefully, unique.

  70. Guus

I see a lot of overlap though

  71. Guus

only nyco and me are new this year, I think.

  72. nyco

    nope! ;-)

  73. Guus

only me is new this year?

  74. MattJ

I can understand why people don't want to do multiple years, it's a frustrating thankless job in my honest opinion :)

  75. nyco

though I feel it frustrating as well, I don't think it is thankless

  76. Guus

I'm not arguing that we must have a two-year tenure, btw

  77. MattJ

I think the best place to progress the discussion is on the list, where the conversation currently is (I'm assuming they are fixed now)

  78. Guus

I'd primarily want to improve continuity

  79. nyco

anyway, concretely, a longer tenure seems not possible in terms of org neither wishable by candidates, is my understand aligned?

  80. Guus

I wouldn't mind doing two years, for what its worth

  81. MattJ

    It may be so

  82. Guus

but there might be other options

  83. Guus

to the list it is, as far as I'm concerned.

  84. MattJ

    Ok, agreed

  85. MattJ

    5) AOB?

  86. Guus

    none here

  87. MattJ

    Ok

  88. MattJ

    6) The End

  89. nyco

    thx all

  90. MattJ

Assuming everyone is happy with +1w

  91. Guus

    +1w, rigth 🙂

  92. Kev

Guus: FWIW, I'd be surprised if you stood and the Membership didn't elect you. Which is pretty much at the root of me thinking changing the bylaws on this isn't worthwhile.

  93. Guus

Kev, like I said, making tenure longer isn't my goal here. I've just noticed that things die down often, which is what I'd like to see change

  94. Kev

I suspect longer terms would have the opposite of the desired effect for that.

  95. Guus

preventing boards from changing frequently is one way of doing that, I think, but there might be other ways

  96. Kev

I think the election, standing again, etc., tends to add a little energy back into the system. IMO.

  97. Guus

so we should have more elections then! 🙂

  98. jonasw

    daniel, HSLuv looks interesting

  99. daniel

jonasw: looks to me like the right tool for the job. This is pretty much exactly what we want. And colors like nice by default

  100. jonasw

    meh

  101. MattJ

This whole thing is so close to the literal definition of bike-shedding, it's scary

  102. Zash

Fun fact: Our bike sheds are not painted.

  103. MattJ

Zash, because the committee is still deciding

  104. jonasw

good that the HSLuv documentation doesn’t say which range H is in.

  105. jonasw

    ugh.

  106. jonasw

daniel, did you compare HSLuv and HPLuv?

  107. daniel

    jonasw: no

  108. jonasw

    mmm negative RGB values. fancy.

  109. jonasw

I hate that C implementation already.

  110. jonasw

MattJ, at least, there’s actual functional differences here. HSLuv looks better than YCbCr right away

  111. jonasw

and there are libraries for the major languages

  112. jonasw

    which is also great

  113. jonasw

  114. jonasw

    left: HPLuv, right: HSLuv

  116. jonasw

the definition of the angle is obviously different

  117. jonasw

    but that doesn’t matter

  118. jonasw

    HSLuv looks better to me

  119. MattJ

There seems more contrast in the XEP's colours

  120. MattJ

(this is the first time I have seen any of them)

  121. jonasw

    aren’t you using poezio? ;-)

  122. Link Mauve

    An old version.

  123. MattJ

    Yes, from 2016 or so

  124. Zash

The XEP ones seem to be more uniform in brightness

  125. MattJ

Zash, really? I thought the opposite...

  126. MattJ

    Colours :/

  127. Zash

The ones in the middle of the right square look dark and grey and boring

  128. Link Mauve

Except in the yellow tones, I also find the XEP ones more consistent.

  129. jonasw

disclaimer: I’m not sure I’m gamma-ing those colours correctly

  130. jonasw

also, your viewer may add or not add some gamma correction to this which makes things worse or better, I don’t know

  131. Link Mauve

On my screen, the middle row is the same teal from left to right. ^^'

  132. Zash

disclaimer: I've got a really cheap monitor, no way it's callibrated in any way whatsoever

  133. Zash

Also running it in some extra-brightness mode becasue colors looked really crappy otherwise

  134. Link Mauve

Actually the three rows at the middle are almost the same colour.

  135. Link Mauve

jonasw, is your PNG ICC enabled?

  136. jonasw

    is what what?

  137. jonasw

    it’s generated with scrot

  138. Link Mauve

I don’t know how that production chain does it.

  139. jonasw

so the answer is most likely "no"

  140. jonasw

also, I am just dumping some RGB QColor things onto the screen there

  141. Zash

oh right, the "standard" mode on my monitor makes black insanely bright for some reason
