  1. edhelas

hi everyone, I'm planning to work on a new XEP that could greatly improve the use of Jingle into XMPP clients

  2. edhelas

it could be called Jingle Messaging or Jingle Call History, the idea would be to allow Jingle XMPP clients to send <messages> to the other party to notify it about events that happened on Jingle. I found 3 use cases: a <message> that said that you missed a call (with a <body> for uncompatible clients), another to say that you had a call of 2:54 min with the other contact and a voicemail (basically a <message> with a specific tag and an audio file attached to it).

  3. edhelas

That way those messages could be saved on MAM and all the clients could then have the history of all the calls that happened with the other contacts. I could also be notified on Conversations that someone tried to call me and then connect on Movim to make the call again (Conversations has then the role of a "pager").

  4. MattJ

    edhelas, sounds interesting :)

  5. jonasw

edhelas, I wonder if the "missed call" case can already be covered by archiving Jingle requests?

  6. jonasw

    (those are <message/>s IIRC)

  7. edhelas

    ah maybe

  8. jonasw

not sure if they contain enough information to discern "call" and "file transfer" and other jingle use cases though

  9. Link Mauve

    edhelas, you mean https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0353.html

  10. Link Mauve

Please adopt it instead of writing a new one.

  11. edhelas

no this is not what I was talking about

  12. edhelas

this is about dealing with someone that is online

  13. edhelas

in my use cases the other party could be gone

  14. Link Mauve

You will receive it from MAM once you are offline.

  15. edhelas

I see, it solves some of the cases

  16. edhelas

    great

  17. edhelas

is there clients that are implementing that ?

  18. jonasw

is support@404.city a spammer or actually the 404.city person?

  19. goffi

edhelas: not yet, but I'm planning to implement this one, it's really handy.

  20. Link Mauve

edhelas, I have it implemented in my Rust library, but there is no working client yet.

  21. edhelas

    ok :)

  23. moparisthebest

jonasw: left looks best to me of all 4, the other 3 are a lot darker and look like 1 color per row to me

  24. moparisthebest

Just FYI I'm a bit colorblind so take it with grain of salt, would like to see real life name coloring again :) (like names from this muc)

  25. Zash

Name tags! IRL name tags for everyone!

  26. 404.city

Server 404 https://compliance.conversations.im/server/404.city/ has disappeared from the list https://compliance.conversations.im

  27. lovetox

haha moparisthebest comedy your last sentence :D

  28. moparisthebest

    lovetox: ?

  29. Zash

moparisthebest: You wanna see the algorithms applied to actual nicknames like the ones in this room?

  30. moparisthebest

    Zash: yes

  31. moparisthebest

jonasw generated examples using real room names before, they turned out too similar for me
