  1. goffi

Link Mauve: thx for notice, I'm fixed the pagination in dev, it's not just updated yet.

  2. goffi

Link Mauve: Ge0rG: about xml:lang, here is the screenshot of the experimental feature, using automatic language detection: https://repos.goffi.org/sat_docs/raw-file/tip/screenshots/0.7/language_filtering.gif . It was an experiment, I plan to use locale or explictly declared language.

  3. Ge0rG

goffi: cool. Are those multiple messages or is it all in one with alternative bodies?

  4. goffi

no they are multiple messages. But there is support for several in one boddy (in the backend, frontends now only show the first one).

  5. goffi

I'm not sure if having more than one messages in the body is really useful, it could be for a bot maybe.

  6. Ge0rG

goffi: the reason for my question is, how to handle messages that contain multiple languages, and your preferred one isn't among them

  7. goffi

Ge0rG: my plan (not done now because I have other priorities) is to select a default one based on preferences, maybe first one if none is right, and displaying the other ones if we click on the language tag.

  8. Ge0rG

    goffi: that's an awesome plan

  9. goffi

But as I've never seens several bodies in one <message> so far, it's really not in my short term list. But flagging the language is useful.

  10. goffi

    seen*

  11. goffi

I would like to see multi-language MUC were you can filter on desired language. For instance SàT room is multilingual (English and French mostly), it's useful to filter out one language if you don't speak it.

  12. Ge0rG

goffi: right. But how do you map that onto a good UX?

  13. Ge0rG

goffi: let's say I filter on French, but then you paste a stacktrace or article link in [en], which is flagged as [en], so it's hidden from me?!

  14. goffi

Ge0rG: there is no UX now, it's only visible in the TUI frontend like in the screenshot, and you filter with a manual command. Just an experiment so far, but I think it's useful.

  15. goffi

yes for now it would be hidden, there is room for improvment for sure.

  16. goffi

I think copy/paste should be handled separately anyway, they should be marked as paste, and handled appropriately (folder for instance, highlighted, or with a way to comment, etc.)

  17. goffi

I don't like the auto pastebin, which is a hack IMHO.

  18. oli

Ge0rG: don't hide, give a option to auto translate

  19. goffi

autotranslate has many issues: first you're sending the message to a third party service, second quality is far from being always nice.

  20. oli

hiding messages, just because it is in another language seems awkward

  21. goffi

oli: if you can't understand them ?

  22. goffi

As I've said earlier, there is room for improvment anyway, the important thing is to be able to flag the language of a message.

  23. Link Mauve

“13:05:00 Ge0rG> goffi: the reason for my question is, how to handle messages that contain multiple languages, and your preferred one isn't among them”, in xmpp-parsers I did it like that: https://gitlab.com/xmpp-rs/xmpp-parsers/blob/master/src/message.rs#L111

  24. Link Mauve

goffi, you may also be interested ↑

  25. Link Mauve

    karoshi, you’re blinking, fyi.

  26. goffi

    Link Mauve: thx

  27. karoshi1

Link Mauve: thanks, seems to be a client bug

  28. Link Mauve

karoshi1, there, I gave back your nick. :)

  29. karoshi

    thx 😃

  30. Ge0rG

Link Mauve: you are an evil h4x0r

  31. Ge0rG

Link Mauve: also you should be fixing poezio avatars.

  32. oli

    are there in ASCII?

  33. Ge0rG

    oli: http://caca.zoy.org/wiki/libcaca

  34. Ge0rG

the pain point is not the use of libcaca, but the fact that slixmpp is requesting a full vcard-with-picture for each incoming contact presence.

  35. pep.

No it's not libcaca, it's tct

  36. goffi

do you have a screenshot on avatar shown on Poezio?

  37. Link Mauve

    goffi, https://linkmauve.fr/files/wayland-screenshot-2018-11-26_11-51-30.png

  38. Ge0rG

pep.: so it's actually even worse than libcaca?!

  39. pep.

    Ge0rG, worse in what way

  40. Link Mauve

Ge0rG, there is a better version if you enable half-block Unicode characters.

  41. Ge0rG

pep.: libcaca is using different characters to represent a finer spatial / color resolution.

  42. Ge0rG

Link Mauve: how do you enable them?

  43. Link Mauve

    Ge0rG, /set image_use_half_blocks true.

  44. Link Mauve

It isn’t enabled by default because some ncurses versions (or terminals, not sure) don’t support that many colour variants.

  45. pep.

oh wow, it _is_ better! Now I see poor daniel's face only being chopped up twice as less

  46. Link Mauve

Now if only ncurses added support for TrueColor.

  47. Link Mauve

I wouldn’t have to palettize it to only 256 default colours.

  48. Ge0rG

I'm not even showing avatars at all.

  49. Ge0rG

Link Mauve: did you fix the flood yet?

  50. Link Mauve

Ge0rG, you’d have a patch to test if I did.

  51. Ge0rG checks inbox

  52. Ge0rG

    awwww 😞

  53. Link Mauve

I’m busy with something else atm.

  54. Ge0rG

    excuses!

  55. goffi

    Link Mauve: thx.

  56. Ge0rG

Wow, I can even recognize Tarkin now!
