  1. Link Mauve

Ugh, @width and @height are xs:unsignedByte in XEP-0084, I hope no one ever had an avatar bigger than 256×256…

  2. wurstsalat

There were some issues with Gajim stuttering while it had to display some avatar in 8k×8k

  3. wurstsalat

It was also a plain yellow avatar, so this user was up to something probably

  4. Ge0rG

There is that 1Mx1M png file. I should set it up as an avatar for MUCs.

  5. jonas’

    Ge0rG, I hate you ;-)

  6. jonas’

(no actually I like you pentesting all the clients, but doing that broadcast style ...)

  7. Ge0rG

jonas’: it's the most efficient way!

  8. Guus

    Ge0rG, I love you 🙂

  9. Ge0rG

Guus: is it because I broke your server yesterday?

  10. Guus

no, because you come up with ideas to broadcast 1mx1m png files 🙂

  11. Guus

also, you dont' get to take credit for that. _I_ broke my server yesterday!

  12. Guus

"Working on updates 0% Don't turn off your PC. This will take a while. Your PC will restart several times."

  13. Guus

Why do people put up with Windows?

  14. pep.

A few distributions are heading that way tbh, re updates

  15. Guus

It's at 11% now. FFS, I just want to attach a webcam.

  16. Guus

also, this is _not_ download related. It's installing stuff.

  17. Guus

    24%. W. T. F.

  18. edhelas

it would be great to tag the MUC to be able to search them efficiently

  19. pep.

edhelas, I can you can already do SEO for MUC with the description field :p

  20. edhelas

    meh

  21. Ge0rG

nobody is taking care of those fields

  22. Ge0rG

With MUClumbus, they at least get additional attention. Thanks very much jonas’

  23. jonas’

    you’re welcome, Ge0rG

  24. Ge0rG just realized that he's only contributing to standards@ since April 2014. That has been a rather intense time, in retrospect.

  25. jonas’

    nearly four years

  26. Holger

Exactly the time I started doing stuff myself. Must've been a boring month.

  27. Ge0rG

OTOH: my first two pain points were 0280 and stable MUC message IDs.

  28. Ge0rG

So not much has actually changed

  29. pep.

    That's sad

  30. rion

    > Ugh, @width and @height are xs:unsignedByte in XEP-0084, I hope no one ever had an avatar bigger than 256×256… I wonder what's gonna happen if I have svg avatar

  31. Ge0rG

    integer overflow.

  32. moparisthebest

At least it wouldn't crash the entire OS like pre sp2 XP would when IE visited https://www.moparisthebest.com/no.html

  33. moparisthebest

Nothing special about the image, just the height/width tags were too big

  34. lovetox

to be honest i dont know why i should use these fileds rion

  35. lovetox

every image processing lib you use in a client will also be able to determine the size of the picture

  36. lovetox

ah in case the user has more than one size published

  37. lovetox

i can choose which i want to download

  38. ralphm

rion: 256 ought to be enough for everybody

  39. lovetox

    or use svg

  40. lovetox

    ..

  41. ralphm

More seriously, though, stpeter set these types back in 2007 (in version 0.10), so that's eons ago.

  42. ralphm

(for reference https://mail.jabber.org/pipermail/standards/2007-June/015654.html shows why it changed to optional)
