XSF Discussion - 2019-02-17

  1. rion

XEP-0234: The <checksum/> element SHOULD contain 'creator' and 'name' attributes sufficient to identitfy the content the checksum belongs to I believe it has to be MUST here. at least for name

  2. rion

just for the case when a session has multiple filetransfers

  3. Link Mauve

rion, I’m in the process of fixing a bunch of issues in this XEP, thanks for your input, that is noted!

  4. rion

Link Mauve: and I'm in the process of implementing it. =)

  5. Link Mauve

    Yay!

  6. Link Mauve

It will most likely result in a namespace bump, fyi.

  7. zinid

    > namespace bump the worst thing a developer can hear :D

  8. Link Mauve

    Yes. ;_;

  9. Link Mauve

But the current version already should have been, and didn’t.

  10. Link Mauve

    <hash-used/> was a breaking change.

  11. zinid

nah, I'm fine, it's a problem for abandonware only

  12. Link Mauve

It also is a problem for everyone using a distribution based on providing old obsolete software.

  13. Link Mauve

    *cough* Debian *cough* CentOS *cough*

  14. flow

CentOS probably, but the situation in Debian has improved

  15. pep.

I disagree, but I also don't want to redo the same "discussion" we have all the time on other channels :)

  16. pep.

I disagreeabout Debian, but I also don't want to redo the same "discussion" we have all the time on other channels :)

  17. pep.

I disagree about Debian, but I also don't want to redo the same "discussion" we have all the time on other channels :)

  18. flow

pick one of: tabs vs spaces, emacs vs vim, debian is/is not terrible outdated

  19. flow

rion, if I may ask: implementing it where?

  20. Link Mauve

    flow, Psi.

  21. flow

Ahh, what the state of Psi(+)? Which one should I look first at? Psi, which was probably the very first jabber client I ever used, or is Psi+ the way to go (because it is Psi plus X?)?

  22. debacle

flow, psi-plus 1.4.554-1 has been uploaded to Debian unstable this night. Unfortunately, the OMEMO plugin doesn't work for me. I have it enabled, but the encryption icon remains disabled. (send from psi-plus, excuse my brevity)

  23. Ge0rG just read that as "Debian unusable"

  24. debacle

I'll ask the maintainer, whether I'm doing something wrong in respect to OMEMO. Also, I never used psi-plus before.

  25. debacle hits Ge0rG

  26. Ge0rG

flow [12:06]: > pick one of: tabs vs spaces, emacs vs vim, debian is/is not terrible outdated Emacs and Debian are subjective matters of taste, don't put them into the same box as tabs vs spaces.

  27. pep.

    :D

  28. debacle goes back from psi-plus to jabber.el (a.k.a. modern XMPP)

  29. flow

Such a pitty that jabber.el is not actively developed any more

  30. flow

And I still don't know the difference and background between Psi and Psi+, and which one I should give a try

  31. flow

hmm funny the psi version in gentoo (1.4) is newer than the one on psi-im.org

  32. flow

    Ahh https://psi-plus.com/wiki/doku.php?id=en:main#about_psi explains a bit

  33. flow

I https://psi-plus.com/wiki/en:patches#vcard_clickable_photo really how vcards look these days in XMPP? I should consider switching from a console only client…

  34. pep.

I'm starting having doubts about their target users

  35. jonas’

    lol

  36. jonas’

    flow, FWIW, poezio

  37. jonas’

flow, FWIW, poezio allegedly has avatar support

  38. flow

jonas’, it has? Nice, looks like I have to read up on this

  39. debacle.el

    Not so bad, this jabber.el

  40. flow

debacle.el, but still no carbons support? That was IIRC 2015 the reason I stop using it

  41. rion

Psi+ was mostly merged to Psi. Psi+ wiki is outdated

  42. flow

    rion, thanks for info :)

  43. flow

rion: out of curiosity: what was *not* merged?

  44. rion

flow: unstable or incomplete stuff. Or maybe just something with bad design or mostly useless

  45. rion

I hope to release it soon with mam, jingle and omemo

  46. rion

    Soon=2+ months

  47. rion

Ah yes also voice messages and stable video calls

  48. rion

    Maybe not that soon))

  49. debacle

flow, I have no idea about the jabber.el feature set or XEP support, but I'm sure, it's pretty poor

  50. Ge0rG

That demands for a Venn diagram of the psi vs psi+ features.

  51. melvo

Hi, can someone tell me how to add a link to a XEP for refering to a section inside another XEP? I am looking for something like `&xep1234#section;`.

  52. flow

    melvo, try using <link/>: https://github.com/xsf/xeps/blob/master/xep-0374.xml#L139

  53. pep.

What if you want to use the entity

  54. pep.

    &xep1234;#section I guess?

  55. pep.

Or maybe not, you need .html or .whatever

  56. melvo

    OK, thanks.

  57. Alex

Reminder that the Q1-2019 application period ends in 7 days: https://wiki.xmpp.org/web/Membership_Applications_Q1_2019

  58. jonas’

oh wow, I don’t even recall that I made my re-application already

  59. flow

Thanks for the reminder Alex :)
