Should/could the XSF take action regarding the arrest of Ola Bini (OTRv4 dev)? Maybe reach out to the otr guys and ask if they need help or maybe publish a statement? Or may it be a better idea to wait for now?

  4. lovetox

do you have a times abo?

  5. lovetox

    not much to read there

  6. goffi

hello, can the "id" of a pubsub item be the empty string?

  7. goffi

I don't see anything preventing it

  8. flow

    classic corner case

  9. flow

I fear that the answer possibly is yes

  10. jonas’

why would that be a bad thing?

  11. goffi

jonas’: in my implementation it would currently be a problem, and I suspect it's not the only one which would be affected.

  12. jonas’

a problem as in "your implementation forbids it" or as in "your implementation crashes/throws unexpected errors/..."?

  13. goffi

it will take that as a not specified "id" when id is optional. It's a string, and empty string currently means "no item specified".

  14. jonas’

    fix that anyways

  15. goffi

yes this need to be fixed, that's why I'm asking if it's legal.

  16. goffi

I guess empty string for a node would cause trouble too.

    > Should/could the XSF take action regarding the arrest of Ola Bini (OTRv4 dev)? Maybe reach out to the otr guys and ask if they need help or maybe publish a statement? Or may it be a better idea to wait for now? vanitasvitae: The reason for his arrest is not clear

  18. 404.city Support

vanitasvitae: can contact to find out the reason and on the basis of this make decisions

    > Should/could the XSF take action regarding the arrest of Ola Bini (OTRv4 dev)? Maybe reach out to the otr guys and ask if they need help or maybe publish a statement? Or may it be a better idea to wait for now? I personally am not in favour of involving the XSF.

  20. jonas’

    I agree

  21. moparisthebest

The articles I can find all say the reason was for blackmailing the president

  22. moparisthebest

If the arrest was "for developing encrypted chat software" then absolutely the xsf should make a statement but I see that no where

  23. vanitasvitae

Alright. Lets see then, how everything develops...
