    > Alright. Lets see then, how everything develops... https://blog.torproject.org/ecuador-free-ola-bini

  2. vanitasvitae

https://www.article19.org/resources/ecuador-arrest-of-ola-bini-prominent-swedish-software-developer/ > ARTICLE 19 is concerned that the arrest and illegal detention of Ola Bini is part of a crackdown against the community of developers who build digital security technology tools which enable Internet freedoms and secure communication online.

  3. Wiktor

    vanitasvitae: who's next!?

  4. vanitasvitae

    Could be you!

  5. vanitasvitae

    Run!

  6. pep.

    Yeah..

  7. pep.

They don't seem to care anymore at this point. Look at the lawyer's claims, every step of the process they seem to have done them illegally

  8. moparisthebest

I, for one, am *shocked* a south american country is being accused of violating human rights, I mean, they usually have such a spotless record, right?

  9. lovetox

what was he doing in ecuador

  10. pep.

    Enjoying his holidays I'm sure

  11. moparisthebest

living+working there since 2013 according to that

  12. dwd

lovetox, Avoiding being in another country, from what I recall.

  13. lovetox

i could never live in such a country, im even very reluctant to even set a foot in such countrys that dont have a reasonable state of law

  14. Ge0rG

lovetox: aren't you living in Germany?

  15. lovetox

    no

  16. lovetox

    austria

  17. lovetox

and im sure germany is much more a state of law than ecuador

  18. Ge0rG

Last time I checked they were subject to all the bad EU legislation but the hard fines of the GDPR

  19. lovetox

im not sure how this is connected with the topic

  20. dwd

Ge0rG, Don't tell me you think Germany should leave the EU? Trust me, it doesn't work well.

  21. Ge0rG

dwd: your country voted pro-copyright-reform despite being on the way out! Don't tell me _anything_!

  22. vanitasvitae

Here is a statement of CAD (Centro de Autonomia Digital) with which he worked: https://autonomia.digital/cad/2019/04/12/ola-bini-arrest.html

  23. dwd

Ge0rG, I think that was a matter of shitting on the carpet when leaving the party.

  24. Ge0rG

dwd: are you going to have a EU parliament election this summer?

  25. dwd

    Ge0rG, No idea. Hopefully.

  26. Ge0rG

dwd: with the competency of "our" EUrocrats, I wouldn't be surprised if UK doesn't vote, doesn't exit and we end up without a new parliament because the election is not legal without the brits.

  27. Ge0rG

Now that I think about it, that might not be the worst outcome.

  28. pep.

I thought UK was going to take part in elections, and then if they get out their chairs would get filled by other countries

  29. Ge0rG

    They could combine the election with a second brexit poll: [ ] Party A [ ] Party B [ ] OUT!

  30. dwd

Ge0rG, The trouble is nobody knows what "OUT!" actually means. An politicians seem to be picking whatever variation on it they think gains them most political capital.

  31. pep.

Ge0rG, the issue with that is that if they don't get a party, what the pro-brexit says actually finally start making sense, as they would have no say in what the EU says :P

  32. pep.

Ge0rG, the issue with that is that if they don't get a party, what the pro-brexit say actually finally start making sense, as they would have no say in what the EU says :P

  33. pep.

(and they'd still be in the eu until the deadline or they get a deal)

  34. Ge0rG

pep.: I don't mind the brits not having a say in the EU, I mind the parliament being illegal without their representation.

  35. moparisthebest

Iirc the brexit extension was contingent on them voting in the EU election, otherwise it's revoked

  36. moparisthebest

At least I heard that once, who can keep track

  37. jonas’

in whichever world that makes any tiype of sense

  38. lovetox

must be interesting time as eu politician

  39. lovetox

i dont quite get what it brings the EU to grant extension after extension, but i guess they dont do it out of the good of their hearts

  40. lovetox

but i guess a no-deal would also affect some EU countrys very badly, and really nobody can find consolation in the fact that it will hit britain worse

  41. Guus

lovetox: other EU countries desperately want to avoid getting blamed for problems resulting from Brexit. Therefore, they can't afford to be very strict.

  42. neshtaxmpp

moderators comment it is forbidden speak off-topic, but i see Guus lovetox

  43. neshtaxmpp

    speak off-topic. THIS IS DISCRIMINATIONS.

  44. moparisthebest

I don't recall anyone saying "it is forbidden to speak off-topic"

  45. Ge0rG

    but there is a limit.

  46. Guus

    Eh?

  47. pep.

    Guus the nasty boy

  48. moparisthebest

neshtaxmpp, less nicely, I see a pretty big difference between political discussions somewhat related to free internet chat and therefore xmpp, and "my friend is too stupid to read or follow instructions and needs constant help setting up his XMPP server"

  49. Guus

... what did I walk into here?
