Without checking XEP-0045: You try to set a subject on a room (to=bareRoomJID) and you're not allowed. From where should the error come - bare JID or occupant JID?

we directly start with XEP-0045 questions, best way to make everyone run away… :p

The reason being that '45 says to send from the full occupant JID, which makes precisely 0 sense to me as you just flip to/from when generating an error in almost all cases.

Theoretically

'45 says that a message with both a subject and a body is not a room subject change

Is that enforced by all servers?

I'm not sure there are any servers or clients that handle that correctly

Prosody trunk does it that way, to see what breaks.
