  1. Seve

    > Seems we kinda forgot about https://opendiscussionday.org/ That's very sad :(

  2. pdurbin

I wonder if Mozilla is looking at XMPP as a replacement for IRC. See https://ahal.ca/blog/2019/fragmented-communication/

  3. Seve

Thank you for sharing pdurbin, I will try to take a look at it. KDE moved to Matrix instead.

  4. MattJ

I personally wouldn't mind if they did choose Matrix (or XMPP)

  5. MattJ

Both protocols are modern, open and decentralized, and that's what I care about most

  6. MattJ

The XMPP<->Matrix bridge exists, but still needs some work, I'm sure it will only improve if Matrix expands

  7. pep.

if it's interesting enough for Matrix to do so**, which entirely depends on us

  8. pep.

    (which is fine)

  9. MattJ

    True

  10. Seve

Wouldn't they work on the bridge if XMPP gets more popular than Matrix

  11. pep.

Seve, yes that's what I said

  12. Ge0rG

Or, controversial idea ahead, somebody from our community volunteers to improve the bridge.

  13. pep.

Why do the work when we can get people to do it for us? :-°

  14. waqas

Is this defined work, e.g., a bunch of github tickets or whatever, or is turning this into a project part of the work?

  15. pep.

It's like Daniel didn't write OMEMO implementations in every clients, client devs implemented it :)

  16. moparisthebest

Seve, "if XMPP gets more popular than Matrix" uh hasn't it always been?

  17. Seve

    :)

  18. moparisthebest

seriously though? I tend to think XMPP has to have far more servers/users, just because it's older if nothing else

  19. Zash

How did bridges evolve in the XMPP world?

  20. Zash

    moparisthebest: Aske Epic and NATO

  21. Zash

    moparisthebest: Ask Epic and NATO

  22. thomas

    sd

  23. thomas

    alameyo

  24. MattJ

    thomas, can we help you?

  25. Guus

Zash: we actually _should_ be asking Epic and NATO - hence my emailed request the other day.

  26. thomas

    no thanks

  27. thomas

    i just have a try

  28. Zash

Guus: So, how would we do that?

  29. Guus

contact your friends in Nato, tell them about XMPP, ask if they want to showcase their usage through a testimonial, and if they're interested in working together more in the future.

  30. Zash

Yeah, I'm so well-connected with NATO

  31. Guus

    Epic then. 🙂

  32. Anderson

    a

  33. Ge0rG

I'd also love to see a story about GCP

  34. mondstern

i am one of the new xmpp dresden meetup and wanted to ask how to log in to a wiki xmpp account. thanks a lot.

  35. pep.

    https://wiki.xmpp.org/web/Sysops

  36. pep.

Then it depends on availability of these people

  37. pep.

usually it's instant once you manage to get them :)

  38. Zash

To login you would go to https://wiki.xmpp.org/web/Special:UserLogin but as pep. notes you need a sysop to create you an account first

  39. pep.

(note that they're also all available in this room)

  40. Ge0rG

(also note that the process is much faster if you provide the required information with your question)

  41. mondstern

in sysops it says that i should go to another muc and then ask again, right? so e.g. GeOrG hear in the muc in the other muc ask

  42. Zash

Probably prefectly doable to ask here

  43. Ge0rG

mondstern: you can ask here or via PM. It would be better anyway because I'm not joined to the other muc from my mobile client.

  44. Ge0rG

I need an alias command for the second half of the Sysops page, apparently.
