  1. pep.

winfried, you know that members@ is public right

  2. winfried

Whoops... Couldn't find a public link to its archives... but maybe I didn't check well enough.

  3. Alex

    https://mail.jabber.org/mailman/listinfo

  4. Alex

Goto Members, and then Members Archives

  5. winfried

    so be it ;-)

  6. jonas’

Iteam can probably remove it from the archives.

  7. flow

hopefully without change the IDs of the other mails

  8. flow

    *changing

  9. jonas’

there are no IDs after that one

  10. flow

winfried, interesting read, thanks for posting btw

  11. Neustradamus

It will be nice to update mailman, Alex ^^ GSoC: Jabber/XMPP Google Summer of Code -> XMPP Google Summer of Code JDev: Jabber/XMPP software development list -> XMPP software development list JUser: Jabber/XMPP end-user discussion list -> XMPP end-user discussion list

  12. Neustradamus

Other lists are already good :)

  13. Neustradamus

    And: - http://www.xmpp.org/council/ -> https://xmpp.org/council/ - http://www.xmpp.org/extensions/ -> https://xmpp.org/extensions/ - nntp://news.gmane.org/gmane.network.jabber.devel works? - nntp://news.gmane.org/gmane.network.jabber.user works? - nntp://news.gmane.org/gmane.network.jabber.standards-jig works? - http://www.xmpp.org/extensions/ -> https://xmpp.org/extensions/ - http://www.xmpp.org/summit/ -> https://xmpp.org/summit/

  15. winfried

jonas’ flow thanks for thinking along, but no need for that

  16. winfried

Ge0rG: thanks for sharing, that is a nice case to throw in when people say XMPP is dead...

  17. Ge0rG

winfried: you don't know of https://xmpp.org/uses/gaming.html - do you?

  18. Ge0rG

    there is also https://github.com/xsf/xmpp.org/issues/490

  19. winfried

Ge0rG: I do know, but casually saying "oh, Nintendo just switched to XMPP to send push notifications to all consoles, twice as much users as the whole population of the Netherlands on a single deployment" and then walking on has better effect.

  20. pep.

    Indeed :)

  21. Ge0rG

winfried: right, that's a bit more focused, and Nintendo is probably the best-well-known brand on that list, at least among non-gamers

  22. Ge0rG

...that made me want to buy a Switch and MitM the XMPP connection

  23. Ge0rG

but we don't have good XMPP MitM, do we?

  24. winfried

Ge0rG: exactly... still would like to MitM my sons Switch anyway ;-)

  25. Ge0rG

I'm not sure I can convince my SO, anyway. The last console I bought was an Xbox360, and the only game it saw was KingKong, up to the font file exploit to load Linux

  26. winfried

Ge0rG: and later on you can elaborate more, tell that almost everybody has at least two XMPP deployments in his pocket without knowing it and that the toiletpaper of battlegroups of NATO ships on the Atlantic is managed over XMPP...

  27. winfried

Ge0rG: children are a great way to bypass a SO: "wow daddy, are we getting a [nice gadget]!"

  28. Ge0rG

winfried: what are the two deployments you are speaking of?

  29. Ge0rG

I'm not even sure whether Google is still using it for Android push

  30. winfried

Ge0rG: yeah, I know - it is the platform push infrastructure & whatsapp. Both cases are a bit doubtful to what extend it still is XMPP or not.

  31. winfried

Ge0rG: I usually say something like: you are almost for certain using XMPP without knowing it.

  32. winfried

BTW: does anybody know any details on the deployment of XMPP at the French ambulance service? I have a discussion on LinkedIn where it may be very tactical to mention it, if the case fits well enough.

  33. Ge0rG

whatsapp, right. I'm not using that

  34. Ge0rG

winfried: watch out, the french govt is using Matrix now

  35. winfried

Ge0rG: I know, for messaging between civil servants, the French ambulance did their own thing

  36. Wojtek

ralphm: regarding xmpp logo usage - I approached Nyco with the question just to make sure it's ok to use it on our pages, https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:XMPP_logo.svg states it's MIT so basically the answer is that yes, we can

  37. Kev

That's assuming that whoever uploaded it got the license right.

  38. Kev

MIT seems quite odd, I didn't think the XSF tended to use that, it's usually CC-ish if anything, AFAICR.

  39. Kev

    Well, other than the XEPs.

  40. Kev

Ah, right, so what's happened here is that someone has taken the logo, found that XEPs are MIT licensed, and so claimed that the logo must be MIT licensed, despite not being a XEP.

  41. Kev

At least, that's what it looks like to me.

  42. Wojtek

but it's seems that actual licence status of the logo is unknown? should we assume "CC-ish" or MIT (both cases would permit usage)?

  43. jonas’

I think the logo is fair use as trademark anyways, isn’t it? If you’re using it according to the trademark stuff anyways

  44. ralphm

Kev: what more likely happened is that our IPR policy was more prominent on a previous version of our website, and it says MIT for all the things

  45. Kev

Also possible, but as that page links to the XEP's IPR policy as the one used for the logo, I'm not entirely convinced.

  46. ralphm

There is no claimed trademark on XMPP, nor the logo. But we issued its creation.

  47. ralphm

Anyway, I asked Peter and he also said it is covered by our IPR policy

  48. Wojtek

    thank you :-)

  49. ralphm

Wojtek: also, it was discussed in Board and we see no issue with you using it on your site.

  50. Wojtek

    great!

  51. Wojtek

(if it was in minutes I must have missed it)

  52. neshtaxmpp

    someone use xsendfile
