wiki.xmpp.org hosts MediaWiki 1.25.4 (generator tag tells me that) from late 2015. would it be possible to upgrade MediaWiki to a recent version (or at least one with LTS, e.g. 1.31 with EOL June 2021) ?

Read: I don't know how, but it has something to do with that dockerfile

  5. jonas’

    use docker they said

  6. jonas’

(this is exactly why I advise against the use of docker if you don’t have a lot of resources and instead rely on distribution packages only)

  7. Zash

    That tag doesn't even exist

open a ticket at the xsf org, then wait forever.

Yes, Docker is a nightmare for this

  12. MattJ

Consider security updates, there is nobody pushing those to you if you use Docker images, and not even any way to find out if you're running a vulnerable version (without manual work)

  13. MattJ

Obviously it simplifies a lot of other stuff, but I don't see it as a clear win for this reason

  14. MattJ

(and I'm speaking as someone heavily involved in maintenance, upgrades and recovery of the Mediawiki instance in the past... which was not exactly pleasant work)

i have also experienced the Docker image issues
