  1. kapa1ua

    hi!

  2. kapa1ua lol

  3. Zash

If a server prevents sending to JIDs considered invalid per local JIDPREP rules, then users can't talk to anyone on servers that might have a more recent Unicode database, or such.

  4. Zash

    So. What to do?

  5. jonas’

    something about potatoes

  6. Zash

    Indeed

  7. jonas’

didn’t ralph or someone post to the IETF about that?

  8. pep.

And there's no answer to that tbh :/

  9. jonas’

    ew

  10. jonas’

    ietf.org is behind clownflare now?

  11. pep.

People are either fine with it or don't know what to do, from what I understand

  12. jonas’

    Zash, https://mailarchive.ietf.org/arch/msg/xmpp/a-WhzOTyOq168GujQHgzQ1-DURI thread

  13. jonas’

    yeah, that’s the gist

  14. jonas’

or maybe "make your unicode library able to load a unicode version from disk so that you can switch as needed"

  15. Zash

Can't becasue still on stringprep and I'm not super excited about Rust or Go dependencies.

  16. Ge0rG

Which doesn't actually solve any of the problems but redirects them to the server admins

  17. pep.

    Why Rust or Go?

  18. Zash

I'm told there's a Rust PRECIS implementation somewhere.

  19. jonas’

    Zash, there’s also a python one ;)

  20. Zash

I only know of that and a Python one

  21. Zash

jonas’, I know, I've been crying over these issues for waaaaaaay too long.

  22. pep.

Zash, that Rust PRECIS lib, it's from Sam, but there's no associated repo

  23. pep.

    Also https://bitbucket.org/mellium/xmpp-addr/ is gone

  24. pep.

somebody(tm) in xmpp:chat@xmpp.rs?join did say they had an interest in PRECIS and they were going to work on it.. (not ETA of course)

  25. vrobertoh1

    hey

  26. vrobertoh1

    good day house

  27. flow

Zash, there is also a java one :)
