https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0225.html talks about asserting a JID in STARTTLS and SASL, but neither of those normally use JIDs.

(in SASL, either way)

The authzid need not have any relation to the JID bound.

XMPP Core (IIRC) talks about a "simple username"

That's usually the same as your JID localpart, but doesn't really have to be
