Hi all. Some UX feedback about using jabber FWIW. I just set up a jabber client on a new Android (6.0) using an account I've been using on an older Android (4.4). The client on the older device offers me no obvious way to verify the new device, so it can decrypt the chat history that's been synced to it. OMEMO is not working with a number of contacts, including some I've already chatted with using the same account, and some I haven't. The more experienced jabber users I've asked seem to accept these deficits as normal. At the risk of some here taking offence, I think it's fair to point out that there are federated chat networks that can handle device cross-signing much more seamlessly from a user POV.

I love it when people equate OMEMO and Jabber.

strypey: If you want to be able to decrypt your messages later on a new device you should use an e2ee without forward secrecy, e.g. PGP. That's what I would also prefer, but seems a lot of people need/want FS nowadays.

PGP => OpenPGP

Is there anything else? 😇

I don't think so, and at least you did not refer to it as 'gpg' ;)

Yeah, I'm so used that everybody is using OpenPGP when you say PGP. I've never met someone using the proprietary one. 😃

I have several co-workers still using Zimmermann's PGP. Proves that people even older than me exist.

Does anyone knows something about this?
