emus: yes I think your statement is correct, but if they didn't have to upgrade due to LE certs in January they'd have to for many other certs in September
-
Ge0rG
ralphm: they won't turn off GSM because it provides basic coverage to M2M devices like vending machines.

https://www.androidauthority.com/volte-att-t-mobile-1148654/ + https://lists.osuosl.org/pipermail/replicant/2020-November/003151.html is what I was referring to
-
ralphm
Ge0rG: T-Mobile in The Netherlands will turn off 2G for regular use on 1 June 2021, and for M2M on 1 June 2023.
-
ralphm
But KPN will keep it going until 2025 for smart power meters
-
Ge0rG
Wow, the Netherlands are a progressive country regarding their infrastructure. In Germany we are killing 3G in favor of 4G but keep GSM running
-
Ge0rG
But we also have a minimum guaranteed internet access for everybody of... modem line.
-
Link Mauve
I got my very first 4G device on Monday. :p
-
Link Mauve
It’d be inconvenient to go to a neighbour country and being unable to even place a call. :/
-
Ge0rG
Well, in Germany you don't need to go to a neighbor country to not be able to place a call, quite the opposite.

> Should be possible to locate one or two .. :) Probably...

mdosch
Yaxim.im should support it mdosch.de, where I once gave you an account, too. 😃
-
Daniel
Sorry. I was just cleverly disguising a test message
-
Daniel
Because this channel also runs prosody

Quick confirmation: when I use XEP-0059 RSM and specify a <max/> larger than what the server supports and I do not specify either <after/> or <before/>, I should receive the *first* N elements, where N is the server-side max? (and the <set/> in the response should have <max/> set to the server-side max)
-
ralphm
Ge0rG: sure, 3G is being killed, too, and faster, to free up spectrum for 4/5G
-
Arne
I wonder why GSM is still used. I thought there where enough security problems..
-
Zash
jonas’, that's what I would expect, getting the first set of items.
-
jonas’
Zash, nice, jabber.ietf.org does the opposite
-
Zash
Yup, I too noticed this, but haven't been in a bug reporting mood at the same time.

Seve
>Jabber is sometimes referred to by the name "XMPP". LOL
-
edhelas
Jabber is the new XMPP
-
mdosch
I don't like that "Jabber" is still used everywhere. It makes it hard to sell it to people who had to use Cisco Jabber before as they say "Ewwww, cisco jabber, stay away with that".
-
mdosch
Would be nice if we had a catchy name that could be spelled rather than XMPP but Jabber is burnt.
-
moparisthebest
"Snikket" ?
-
Zash
"Chat"
-
Zash
... "Zimpy" ‽

moparisthebest
"The Matrix Revolutions"
-
Zash
"Meta-Chat" since it's only used to discuss itself :P
-
Neustradamus
Jabber is the old name of XMPP.
-
mdosch
And of a Cisco product.
-
Neustradamus
mdosch: Yes of course
