  1. arc

Wondering what people think about the name Spring Relay?

  2. arc

Relay as in a bunch of sprints

  3. arc

Calling it spring vs March has the advantage that if it becomes a regular deal, we could have a spring event done under, during our fall

  4. emus

https://xmpp.org/2021/01/instant-messaging-its-not-about-the-app/ Thanks to everyone participating! 🤗️

  5. MattJ

Yay, thanks for all your work on this emus :)

  6. mathieui

    Thanks a lot indeed!

  7. emus

You are welcome. Ill try to arrange some tweets tonight

  8. MattJ

    Sounds good :)

  9. Holger

    👍

  10. Daniel

    > You are welcome. Ill try to arrange some tweets tonight emus: be arrange you mean find the wording or do the actual tweet?

  11. Daniel

Because if this is about tweeting I can help you out

  12. emus

Daniel: Yes that - thanks. One second

  13. emus

    > Instant Messaging: It's not about the app - #XMPP provides sovereignty of your communication https://xmpp.org/2021/01/instant-messaging-its-not-about-the-app/ #openstandards #opensource #decentralisation #interoperability

  14. emus

That as a tweet would be nice. I also thought to pin it. (not that lauras is bad, I linked it in the article, too)

  15. emus

Maybe we need a tiny link - any one have a trustful recommendation?

  16. Daniel

i don’t think url shorting improves anything here

  17. Daniel

i think i don’t have the rights to pin the tweet

  18. Daniel

    but i tweeted it

  19. emus

Daniel: Thank you very much, thats alright!

  20. Daniel

    i do agree tho

  21. Daniel

a five year old blog post doesn’t make the best pinned tweet

  22. Daniel

a ~five~ six year old blog post doesn’t make the best pinned tweet

  23. emus

Yes, I just thought its good to have something current to. even so the content hasnt aged really https://twitter.com/xmpp/status/1352946729713340416?s=20

  24. emus

dunno if I got a decent link there

  25. mathieui

(fyi, it has been a while since twitter stopped counting link URLs in the body size, as it will add an ellipsis and only count the size of a t.co URL which is the one people will click on anyway)

  26. Daniel

emus, can the blog engine insert header tags?

  27. Daniel

    for a post?

  28. mathieui

ah yes, having a twitter card for xmpp.org blog posts would be nice

  29. Daniel

yes posting plain links on twitter ist somewhat ugly

  30. Daniel

i make sure to always have cards even if they don’t have a lot of content

  31. emus

Daniel: Unfortunately ai have few understanding of pelican. but it can be possible maybe

  32. mathieui

it is kind of awful that they require twitter-specific tags, facebook-specific tags, etc, though…

  33. Daniel

i just didn’t want delay tweeting it

  34. Daniel

plus you can update it later

  35. mathieui

it looks like there is a plugin for that: https://github.com/MichaelMartinez/twitter_card

  36. emus

Daniel: Lets try to review this, I will ask iTeam, maybe they have an answer

  37. mathieui

(otoh I guess a manual theme modification would be enough for a basic card)

  38. emus

    ok, Im gonna review tonight

  39. edhelas

    here we go, retweeted :)

  40. mathieui

ok, I have a metadata generator that works for articles, making a pull request

  41. mathieui

looks like this https://pix.mathieui.net/o/KEHds.png (but for xmpp.org as a website of course)

  42. mathieui

    PR-ed

  43. Neustradamus

I think there is a problem of date for the last article on the XSF blog.

  44. mathieui

Neustradamus, well, it is the redaction date, not the publication date

  45. jonas’

    not this again

  46. Neustradamus

It breaks the data flow ;) The date must be the validation date.

  47. emus

I tend to always forget that^^

  48. moparisthebest

    What's a validation date

  49. moparisthebest

emus: again great job on article, mind posting it https://fosstodon.org/@xmpp ?

  50. wurstsalat

    Seve ^ ?

  51. Zash

    moparisthebest, "publishing date" presumably

  52. emus

moparisthebest: gonna do it later, but let me have a bit of my day off ☺

  53. moparisthebest

emus: xsf has no time constraints, enjoy :)

  54. emus

    Thanks

  55. emus

Any comments on this or request, that I should wait for one review? https://github.com/xsf/xmpp.org/pull/870

  56. mathieui

emus, ad the end, it should be "an [XMPP" and not "a [XMPP"

  57. mathieui

emus, at the end, it should be "an [XMPP" and not "a [XMPP"

  58. emus

why actually? an only in front of vocals right?

  59. mathieui

it depends on the sound made by the starting letters of the word

  60. mathieui

in the case of XMPP, it starts with ex-, which is therefore a vowel

  61. mathieui

(unless you want to pronounce it "Zimpy" as per Ge0rG rules :D)

  62. mathieui

(my rule of thumb is "if you pronounce it and it require a pause after the a, use an", but I am not a native speaker)

  63. Zash

"if you pronounce it and it feels wrong, then use the other variation"

  64. mathieui

I did check on grammarly before making that remark though :p, to be 200% sure

  65. mathieui

also you put UWXP for UWPX

  66. mathieui

(can’t fault you for that one too much either)

  67. emus

    hehe, thanks for review

  68. mathieui

emus: I'll try to review the french one tomorrow

  69. emus

    Thanks, take your time!

  70. mathieui

Also, what is the licensing for the blog? (E.g. is it possible to reblog on linuxfr with proper attribution? )

  71. emus

Good question, from my personal side you one can reblog it with the attribution. arc, ralphm, SouL, dwd MattJ ?

  72. emus

I don't know if blog articles got under the same license as the Newsletter 🧐️

  73. arc

    I would say they do

  74. arc

    Or should

  75. emus

If the board agrees, I am happy to put it under the license (add the info same as from the newsletter)

  76. emus

    >License >This newsletter is published under CC BY-SA license.

  77. arc

    Yeah

  78. arc

I'm interested in hearing what people think about the events name "Spring Relay", which would be an organized series of sprints on xmpp software and community online meetups over the course of 4-6 weeks this spring, likely starting in March

  79. emus

We might should also put a 4.0 https://wiki.creativecommons.org/wiki/License_Versions

  80. arc

I'm thinking if we did it a second time, that would be well oriented to discuss in person at FOSDEM in February, and it gives enough time now to start organizing it.

  81. MattJ

Before this gets to "let's wait for Board to decide what licence the blog is under", let's say emus wrote the content and can choose to license it however

  82. arc

+1 mattj, I would just say since it's going on our website it should be under a free license of some form, because if it was a controversial license it would reflect poorly on the organization

  83. emus

If this is a XMPP focused event, I would put it as XMPP Spring Relay or dunno any other wording with relation what it will be about

  84. MattJ

I don't want reblogging held up for another week on a silly discussion like that, nobody is going to sue for copyright infringement - pick a CC and go for it :)

  85. arc

Emus xmpp spring relay is fine

  86. emus

MattJ, okay - I'm asking as this is on a official page from XSF, so I dont wanna go crazy with that stuff

  87. arc

Emus, it sounds like you have good judgment and I've already spent far too much time thinking about this 😅

  88. emus

As I put a new commit to the text. Does it make sense to change the header date? It is actually wrong^^. Or will this create a republish?

  89. arc

    s/I've/have

  90. MattJ

We can (and should) determine what licence blog contributions are to be placed under, but in the short term: you choose something you're happy with and let mathieui know

  91. emus

    Ok

  92. SamWhited

emus: Don't worry about the date.

  93. arc

Conversations needs past message edit support.

  94. arc

I'm looking for feedback because I'm working with our arts team and we're producing a short promo video (in webb/ogg of course)

  95. arc

And I need to get the proposal too SCAM, start looking for small contributions from corporate sponsors

  96. arc

Cisco, nike, intel, google, microsoft, to name a few easy ones.

  97. arc

Hey btw since I'm in inkscape, just a side thought, does anyone have the font file for the xmpp logo handy? Is there one?

  98. arc

So far I've only talked to nike and they seem open to chipping in a few hundred. They apparently have a budget left over from last year for open source that didn't get used because all the conferences were canceled

  99. arc

So my general thinking is, that might be pretty common among. So even with international shipping we should be able to manage swag and such

  100. emus

Can you tell a bit more on the Spring? Havent read on this yet
