  1. dwd

There is the small point that if you rely on globally unique identifiers, someone will try to take advantage of that.

  2. flow

I am not so sure if this point is so small. In any way, when you refer to another stanza by it's ID, at least also take the ID assigning entity into account. Otherwise it will be very easy for people to inject duplicate IDs, and this appears more like a big issue

  3. flow

Think of a message archive containing messages which reference other messages. If they just use an ID value to refernce the other messages, then it would be easy to inject further messages with the same ID into the archive, causing ambiguity which messages are actually referenced

  5. edhelas

emus let's create XMPP 2.0 "The ecosystem is moving" edition™

  6. emus

Haha - NOW! The new federation: Centralised XMPP

  7. Sam

Board: can you mention during the meeting today that it would be good to get boarrd review of the fiscal host terms? https://pad.disroot.org/p/XSF_Fiscal_Host_Rules

  8. Sam

    Thanks.

  9. Sam

No rush, I just wanted individual members to have it on their radar.

  10. ralphm

    Thanks Sam!

  11. ralphm

Might not make it in time for Board today myself.

  12. MattJ

    Might anyone? It's now, right?

  13. MattJ

Unrelatedly: Anyone have an example of a notable organization that uses XMPP for communication? NATO and NOAA excluded

  14. MattJ

    arc, dwd, ralphm: anyone present?

  15. arc

    Yes

  16. arc

But if Ralph doesn't make it I don't know

  17. arc

I just assumed that the meeting was canceled

  18. MattJ

    Looks like it is :)

  19. Kev

MattJ: You mean other than Eve online ingame, and stuff like that?

  20. MattJ

Yeah, I have a bunch of examples like that

  21. MattJ

Looking for maybe less "built into commercial product" and more "used for communication by organization members"

  22. Kev

Most of the stuff I know about is military/government/integrations

  23. Zash

MattJ, does using Zoom or Jitsi Meet count?

  24. Zash

... or Jitsi Meet embededd in Matrix?

  25. mathieui

I happen to know that the french military police is using XMPP for internal communication, but I don’t think I ever saw a statement on that

  26. Kev

We do have some commercial customers using it for IM, I think, but not that many, and I wouldn’t know if we could share.

  27. Zash

Didn't some german police use XMPP too? IIRC according to one of Daniels presentations?

  28. MattJ

It's not entirely surprising, most organizations are going to be using it via a product such as Jitsi, Zoom or RIP HipChat

  29. mathieui

Yeah, unless there are really stringent requirements, they are going to use a product or a product suite to meet their needs

  30. mdosch

    > Didn't some german police use XMPP too? IIRC according to one of Daniels presentations? There is MOKA, but no idea whether they use it or just evaluated it.
