XSF Discussion - 2021-06-04

  1. jjjsssfff123

advise an xmpp client with a torrent connection and a focus on security

  2. jjjsssfff123

    and recommend an xmpp server)

  3. jonas’

jjjsssfff123, this is not a user support channel.

  4. jjjsssfff123

    What channel is this?

  5. jonas’

this? this is the place to discuss development of the documents which govern how XMPP works under the hood.

  6. Zash

It would be neat to have a XEP for file transfer via bittorrent 🙂

  7. MattJ

    magnet: in an OOB payload?

  8. mathieui

Zash: you mean "send a magnet"?

  9. Zash

    Pretty much

  10. jonas’

but careful with those pacemakers when you throw magnets

  11. Zash

Could throw in some HTTP Upload powered web-seeding.

  12. jonas’

    yum, for sending to MUCs

  13. jonas’

also exposes all IP addresses of all MUC occupants immediately

  14. Ge0rG

    jonas’: that's only a problem in Germany's C&D situation

  15. jonas’

    Ge0rG, privacy?!

  16. Ge0rG

    </s>

  17. mathieui

Zash: but yes, doing httpupload + a magnet and webseeding is a nice touch

  18. mathieui

The issue would be to do ipc between the torrent client and the xmpp client

  19. emus

We are about to release the next XMPP Newsletter by tomorrow. If there are more voluteers to review read, that would be really appriciated: https://github.com/xsf/xmpp.org/pull/919

  20. marc

emus: is there a rendered version?

  21. wurstsalat

marc: there isn't. But you could put it into a markdown parser of your choice, I guess

  22. Zash

or attempt to build the website locally

  23. emus

marc: what zash says. click on Files and then there is a preview button

  24. marc

    Okay, thanks

  25. Sam

This seems like a perfectly reasonable channel to ask for client recommendations on. This is the whole xsf, not just spec work. Not to mention that basically every client dev will be in this room.

  26. emus

I basically like the idea to have a go to MUC in XMPP

  27. Sam

I don't know if this MUC should or should not be that, but until we know or have one let's not turn people away without an answer and be off topic police unless they're being disruptive.

  28. emus

I think is fine to have this topic for XSF. Many people cannot deal with that technical or organisational level sonetimes. Maybe what we are talking about is a newcomer chat. No agenda apart from exchange an support on XMPP where possible

  29. MattJ

User community/support is exactly what jabber@ used to be (and the MUC still exists, it's just not easily discoverable)

  30. Kev

I was about to say that :)

  31. MattJ

It's where I first joined the community, at least, and probably many others

  32. Kev

psi@conference.psi-im.org for me, I think, and then jdev@

  33. emus

MattJ, Kev: How can discovery be improved? Or what needs to be changed?

  34. jonas’

if only we had tags on MUCs

  35. emus

jonas’: so this muc is actually tagged?

  36. jonas’

    no

  37. emus

    but it could be done?

  38. homebeach

what is the xep for tags?

  39. emus

Sorry, what was the full ID of this MUC?

  40. emus

    jabber@ ?

  41. vanitasvitae

    emus: xsf@muc.xmpp.org

  42. emus

nono, see the recent discussion ^
